That's a young full colonel (3 crab). Should be high flyer (scholar)..

because he is a COL and thus he has a different cap badge and wears a gorget patch on his No.1 instead of the vocation badges. there are different gorget patches for COLs, and generals depending on the rank.

the cap badge also differs by service/rank. the regular metal cap badge is only for LTC and below. COL has a unique embroidered badge incorporating the service insignia, while BG and above also have their own unique embroidered badge. not sure if from BG - LG got any difference.

even the shoulder boards for No.1, General-level ranks have them in gold, and '3D'

COL means must have CSB and JCC? maybe while he is the commander of SAFTI MI, he will join the cadets for it

if I am not wrong:

COL - 1 stripe
BG - 2 stripes
MG - 3 stripes
LG - is some curly stripe

the navy and air force COL and above peak cap crest also has some subtle difference

Gorget
Gorget patches are worn with the Number 1 dress uniform for Army officers above the rank of COL. They are fastened at the collar with the base at the forward edge of the collar and the pointed edge inwards. It can be described
as a “coloured collar patch (usually red) with a button and either gold lace oak leaf motif or silk cord.”

In the SAF, gorget patches come in the following designs:

1. For COLs: A red patch with one gold braid lacing down the centre and a small gold button at the point.
2. For BGs: A red patch with two gold braids lacing down the centre and a small gold button at the point.
3. MGs and Above: A red patch with gold oak leaf embroidery down the centre and a gold button at the point.

IIRC, for COL above Army officers, cap badges got difference.

but for navy and air force, all ranks to be use the same cap badge.

Ng Yat Chung was a 3 star general and he had NO badges, not even a IPPT silver, so clearly your badges has nothing to do with how high up you can go.

nope Air Force PTE - LTC/COL/BG - LG got difference also. not sure about Navy, but definitely got difference between metal and embroidered.

Ng Yat Chung was a 3 star general and he had NO badges, not even a IPPT silver, so clearly your badges has nothing to do with how high up you can go.

End state, it's still up to you education qualification and service achievment. Nothing much to do with personal achievement. Who cares if you used to be from the Special Forces with hell lot of skill badges, the rank owns all.

btw one put the advanced free fall first, and the other put the advanced airborne first

yes it is, for SPF personnel, badges they attain in the SAF due to cross-service training or prior NSF service are worn on their right chest.

I've seen a few SPF regulars donning their SAF-attained badges during their graduation parades or ceremonies..
