Hi all, I'm new to hwz but not new as a skin care and make up consultant.
As a form of giving back to society, I'd love to assist the community with my knowledge here. So feel free to ask me any questions with regards to skin care regime.

I'll do my best to answer everyone's queries!

Hihi Zacvier86,

As a consultant, we need to see our clients face to face in order to offer the correct solutions, targeting the root cause for their issues.

I'm speaking from experience with what I see from most clients.

Generally, a lot of people mistaken dry skin for sensitive skin. First of all, with severely dehydrated skin, the skin produces more oil. The skin also accumulates a lot more dead cells, clogging the pores, causing dullness and is easy to break out upon product applications. The excess oil production also feeds into the growth of more pimples.

Always ensure adequate hydration and hygiene, achieve 8 hours of sleep as your first step.

Toner has 3 main functions
1. Double cleanse
2. Lightly moisturize
3. Prep skin for next skin care step

I would recommend freshener/softener instead of using a toner. Toner contains alcohol and tends to dry out the skin.

Essential Steps in skin care that people die-die should have:
1. Cleanser
2. Freshener
3. Mask
4. Eye care products
5. Serum
6. Moisturizer
7. Sunscreen

In my classes, I teach students the functions of each steps in basic and advanced skin care regime, the correct methods of application and how to choose the correct products for their skin conditions.

Btw...7 Steps is really not a lot. Korean celebrities have up to 34 steps in skin care in order to achieve that healthy glow.

Freshener is toner that does not contain alcohol. Better because alcohol tends to dry out the skin.
Serum is a light weight product that can penetrate deep into skin to cause an effect. Eg, acne serum penetrates deep into skin to clarify pores and control oil production

I represent Mary Kay products. Sry I cant recommend other brands for you.

Have a great week ahead.

will chemical peeling help to remove acne?

Hihi!!!
Please don't use chemical peel for acne.
It is a harsh method if your skin is breaking out
Chemical peels are fantastic for removing scars and pigmentation after achieving nicely balanced skin condition.

Best to target the root cause for your acne breakout.

I find in sweaty Singapore, and I tend to sweat a fair bit, moisturizers and sunscreen tend to make my face sticky and sometimes even cause acne.

I haven't used a moisturizer or sunscreen on my face for 4 years now, and my skin is pretty decent. Any explanation for this - keeping in my mind my skin is fairly oily so a moisturizer isnt really needed?

what you think of snail treatments ? Any benefits or just a fad?

Snail treatments are still a new thing in the beauty industry. Snail venom contains a complex mixture of compounds that have medicinal properties which opens the door to a world of possibilities.

Benefits to snail therapies remains to be researched.

I sell Mary Kay products and I stand by their products.

Do look for the following properties that you would want in your eye care products:
1. Cooling and soothing ingredients
eg: cucumber extract, green tea extract
2. Ingredients that moisturize and improve skin texture
eg: Aloe vera, rose hips
3. Ingredients that helps skin repairs
eg: peptides, argan seeds extract

Hihi!

I use and sell Mary Kay products and I stand by them. It's not quite fair for me to comment on other brands.

I would recommend SPF 35 +++ sunscreens for normal everyday usage if you do not go out to the sun a lot, stays in office environment mostly.

Too low a SPF is not enough coverage. Too high is too thick and tends to cause breakouts.

Use SPF 50 +++ is you are going for outdoor activities.

+++ protects against UVA and UVB which protects against all harmful spectrum of UV light.

Moisturizers and sunscreens are essential must have for every skin care regime.
I agree that Singapore is very hot and humid. At the same time, do ensure that your products are formulated to suit your skin condition.

If what you are currently using causes breakouts, the product is not suitable for your skin condition.

Our skin produces more oil when it is not well hydrated. Drink a lot more water for the next week and share with us if your skin becomes more matt?

Do take not that the consequences for not using sunscreen usually manifests much later in life. Eg: Skin cancer, pigmentation, accelerated aging etc...

Don't wait till then and spend a bomb when it can be prevented cheaply with a sunscreen.

Can consider booking a consultation with me. I can help you do a skin analysis, go through all your current skin care products and assist you in finding the right match for your skin.

Have a great weekend!

How about eczema?

Do you have any off-the-fly advice for someone who is suffering from eczema?

Hi, I used to suffer from eczema too. Did u see a doctor about the condition?

On top of following doctor's prescription, here are some tips to manage eczema:
1. Stay away from things that u r allergic to
2. Maintain hydration: drink lots of water
3. Minimize sun exposure
4. Use a lot of good quality moisturizer, apply liberally on cracked areas.

I spammed my mary Kay botanicals moisturizer and invested heavily on their replenish serum when I first started my training as skincare consultant. Definitely, it was painful on my wallet but it was well worth it. I never had to see doctor or take any medications since then.
