Hi guys, seeking opinion on skirtings.
Google and found some props and cons of skirtings and not having it. To save cost and time, I am kinda leaning towards removing the skirtings for current resale unit. Anyone has no skirtings for their unit? Can share if it is really bad that water gets deep into the wall paint etc? And if there is really a even bigger issue of wall contracting and expanding and showing ugly cracks?

Thanks!

I like the no skirting look but the main reason I ended up getting was to prevent dirty stains on the wall when mopping.

Ic. I was more like bobian because the current skirtings are quite badly damaged by previous owner. And hoping to save cost by not replacing it with new skirting.

You must first understand the purpose of installing skirtings from the point of view of the tilers.

Tilers will usually want skirtings to be installed. As it helps in floor tiles laying faster and quicker. And the floor tiles need not have to butt close to the wall with the tiles need not have to be uniformly cut and aligned.

Hence, be prepared to see uneven gaps and joints (between the wall and the floor tiles) once you removed the skirtings.

This is a good point.
Suppose there are these uneven gaps and joints, what options can I do? I would guess I could fill those gaps with tiles or replace with new skirting to hide them. What alternatives are there?

Lots of grout shield or putty?

Hopefully this is sufficient.

I just went up to have a look after the skirtings were removed. Indeed uneven gaps between wall and tiles here and there. Will have to let the contractor assess and see what can be done.

Also have to depend on chiu and partner.
If don't mind the gap & rework then OK.
Else after move in, either party regret then not so easy to do a patch

Hopefully this is sufficient.
