Just look at the various reviews out there.....I remember quite sometime back, many pple talking about skylake and they are skipping broadwell for skylake and banging on its performance.......

Now its finally here and its a joke....... At least those using SB can finally upgrade if they want. I finding it very weird that some benchmarks Skylake is slower than Haswell (refer to anandtech). Odd........

As expected, changing from DDR3 to DDR4 hardly yields any performance increase.

OC is not any better than 4790K, even power consumption is the same despite smaller process and supposedly better architecture.

No idea what is Intel trying to pull this time.

Don't know about i5, for i7, there is no improvement......

Looking at the price of Z170 boards and DDR4, might as well go for X99.

Yeah. I don't know why they decide to do skylake. Haswell is already good enough. Seeing the video, there's like a little boost in fps but that's mainly from gpu.

I'm very happy with my 4690k.

From Sandybridge onwards, every new processor from Intel gives only marginal improvement (10% or so). So little impetus to upgrade. Intel is helping us to save money. A truly responsible and selfless company.

From Intel's POV, why offer 30, 40% improvements when there is no competition? Almost everyone who wants a discrete desktop CPU will go for Intel.

We should be cheering AMD on.

Seems ok to me. Hardocp has a review. All at 4.5ghz to do clock for clock compare on a retail Sample. Skylake has 10% advantage over ivy in gaming. And clock is 4.7ghz or more on almost all samples.
At 4.7ghz for gaming, a skylake is equivalent to a 5.2ghz ivy, a 5.4ghz sandy. Difference even more marked for encoding and decoding.
Not much improvement over haswell for games, but it clocks better I suppose.

Think I will get 1 set soon.

You spend so much on a cpu mobo and ram. This 3 combine could easily give you another gpu. Which gives you more than just 10% performance.

Intel is extremely disappointing this time when its predecessor 5775c is even faster in gaming than the newest 6700k (techreport review). The reason for the magical different seem to be the 128mb edram on broadwell. Despite being clocked slower its even noticably faster in games than skylake... It is such a joke.

An architectural change that is even smaller than the inclusion of a 128mb edram, wts!

Actually, I feel the 128MB EDRAM is quite a good idea. Cause I can really see that it gives a performance boost over 4790K. But then 6700K no more can it makes 6700K even slower than Broadwell.....WTF.....

Intel is telling u the 6000 series is a downgrade from 5775.

Skylake turn out to be a flop than a tock. I suspect intel is severely crippling its performance in favour of broadwell and badically want to milk as much money from consumers as possible.

From core2duo to....

Hi guys,

Appreciate if someone can advise.

I am on core2duo generation. Skylake and Broadwell doesn't seems to give much of an upgrade from previous generation chip/chipset.

So, if i want to go for value upgrade, what is the best combo i should go for and i don't even mind going for the 2nd hand market? Top tier last gen chip/chipset will be great, but some suggestion of previous gen combo of cpu/motherboard will be very helpful. Had lost track so long haven't been following.

*Assuming i already have a 8gb ddr3 ram on my hand.
*No crossfire or dual graphic card feature required. May look for 2nd hand single graphic card for casual gaming not highend, mid-end will suffice.

Thanks in advance for any advise.

Regards,
tornedo.

Since you already have ddr3 ram, can try getting haswell/broadwell based setups. Really budget conscious, then can opt for b85 or h97 chipsets.

I want to pick up super budget setup as you said...a second hand market will be my 1st choice in particular those less than a year setup. I am clueless which model of cpu/motherboard to lookout. Any advise will be great :)
