I've noticed a slowdown in business over the past two years. Crowds are thinner, merchandise pricier and shops are staying open past 7pm.
The proportion of Apple-related merchandise is on the rise, and the upper floors are either closed (used as storage/workshops?) or colonized by mobile accessory clones.
Business for computer hardware shops may get worse with the closure of Rochor Centre carpark and commencement of major roadworks in the vicinity.
I see DIY interest fading in the coming years as mobile computing gains the upperhand. It is already transforming into a niche market, and the business will enter into another round of consolidation. Think we'll lose a few players in 2014-15.
Thoughts?
