This is a longstanding practice and it exists cos they're not big enough to strike a bargain with the credit companies to either waive or reduce the charge or have large enough turnover or profit margin to absorb the credit charge... it used to be free using NETS to pay but now there's also that 1% charge... so I use cash... cos I'm not a fan of PayNow or Paylah cos of the direct link to one's bank account... best would be to have a general e-wallet like the Touch & Go App that Malaysia has which can be topped up By credit card... you get credit card points, merchant doesn't have to pay credit fees and everyone goes home happy...
Here we pwn each other
E payment enablers take commissions
I reckon should be less than 0.1 percent then is good

Im surprise the practice is still prevalent this day and age
But however no complain because good deals there
Because the cheaper stores don't build-in additional margin to take card payments. Want lowest price, pay using cash/PayNow. Want card rewards, fork out the 3% yourself.

Wow... if volume is high and margins are low, can be quite a hefty price to pay for the merchants..
