Smart lighting

Looking at options for smart lighting for the new place, ceiling lights/down lights that can be also controlled via Alexa.

So far options in looking at are either from IKEA or Philips Hue. Anyone bought smart downlights from either, care to share experience with them? And where’s the best place to buy Philips downlights? Most shops these days only sell sell generic China, non-smart downlights

I use Philips Hue for almost all lights in my place.

Have their Garnea as spot lights ( I use the brighter version, they have two types ), Hue ceiling lights ( actually just a short Hue strip encircling inside ) , Hue strips and extensions, Hue Play, Hue Go, E27 color ambiance and E14 hue candelabra bulbs.

U can also try taobao Hue products, but the power plugs for strips may be abit different. Their Hue motion sensors are somewhat cheaper but that was some yrs back.

Google assistant to control them.

We decided to go with Hue as well, though the price is quite steep compared with Ikea, where's there is no stock lol.

During reno phase I bought many of the bulbs from dmlights overseas, they gave discounts because of my bulk purchases. I have gotten Hue strips and several motion sensors from Taobao. Spot lights I bought them from some seller on Carousell previously.

Yeelights are way cheaper.
Alternatively, TP-Link will work well too.

certain luminaire can get Gledopto brand which us based on zigbee and compatibile with Philips hue bridge and app. most important of all, cheaper and offered RGB+CCT option which is lacking with philips.

for T5 for cove lighting, philips SG doesn't sell but taobao do philips hue T5.

Thanks all. I bought the Hue downlights already today for my rooms. Will look for the other compatible ones for different use cases, e.g. study, pendent light etc as the Hue range is very limited and expensive

If pendant lights dun get their Hue ones, very limited designs. You can consider pendants or light fixtures with friendlier E27/E14/Gu10 bulb holders and switch the Hue lights accordingly.

Do note that dimensions esp for Hue E14 is quite abit longer than non Hue. I didn know that and made some of my smaller pendants look abit different from how it should have been..

( There are folks that remove the outer glass shell but that is messy )

Thanks. I got a couple of lights from Taobao/AliExpress which have remote but don’t integrate with Hue, which is not a problem as it’s standalone areas like entrance corridor and the dining pendant. Am looking for a good ceiling/pendant study light which will be above my desk, need something 5000k color temp but couldn’t find anything suitable that js Hue compatible. Will likely just go with another dumb light for this as I don’t need to integrate all lights to Hue, nor is there a need to. Of course, if cost is not an issue then I would lol

Have anyone tried buying Philips Wiz downlights from taobao? How are these performing when installed?

for a more affordable option, i used to buy wifi smart plugs and connect all my lamps/appliances to them. that way i can control on/off from my phone using smartlife app
