Smartphone camera vs cheap compact camera

Can the 5mp camera on today's $250 budget smartphone produce images of equivalent quality to those $120-$150 entry level cameras?

Wondering whether any point keeping my current compact camera (14mp, 5x optical zoom, digital image stabilization). Seldom use it.

since you already have the compact, why don't you test it out yourself?

shoot using both cameras in scenarios where you will use them.

Go to a computer and view the images, or try printing them out. You will know what you need then.
