just curious... before this mining craze, how much was a regular 1070?

I know right? Like 12.50 per day. So marginal.

Once you factor in electricity cost, wear and tear, the 'opportunity cost' of you not being able to use your gaming PC (although if it was a dedicated rig then this is a bit moot but you'd still need to factor in 'space' cost), etc... surely it's not worth the hassle. Heck there's probably even noise cost and heat (requiring you to AC more?).

Maybe the soaring prices will help people justify 1080Ti instead.

if u have done it 10yrs back.

this post of urs wouldn't exist. :s13:

lol true it's all contextual... but at this point in time, I don't think the average person will really make much money out of this.

If I value my time at say $100/hr, and it'll take me at least a few hours to go out and buy the parts, set it all up, etc... when would I actually even breakeven once you factor in the other costs involved.

cryptocurrency are not backed by central bank or gold. The value won't be there for long term :s13:

Still a speculative investment where you rely on others wanting to buy it from you as opposed to have any claim over any real assets. Not saying it won't go up, but it's 'value' is derived purely by speculation given for most people, there's no other reason to hold bitcoin/cryptocurrency.

the main problem is because it's unregulated that's why it can inflate so much.

and because it's unregulated that's why there's "demand". (possibly from terrorism funding and money laundering)

Thought I'd give it a go for fun after watching a Youtube video

It's been about six hours and I'm at $1.71 USD on my 1080Ti and 1060 (both are running simultaneously). It estimates a bit over $200 USD per month ($280 SGD?)... not bad, but haven't factored in electricity price yet!
