Hard mousepad wears off your skates like no business. Over time, even the hardpads show wear.

With most mice going for weight loss nowdays, I find soft pads the way to go as they add a significant amount of control given how light most of the mice are now.

But depends on your gameplay and your grip method.

Thick soft mouse pad for me.
Moi got wrist pain from hard mouse pad due to gripping style.

Mice are getting lighter nowadays. These works very well with soft mousepads meant for control.
So light mouse with control version of soft pads give the perfect balance of light with the ability to make fast but precise movements as well especially for FPS games and even point-and-click games like DOTA/LOL.

Best to watch reviews and test experiments like the ones from RocketJumpNinja. He also does mousepad reviews too along with his excellent Mice reviews.

Used hard but it wore out the mouse feet very fast, now using soft.

Was using Func hard mousepad many years ago. Then used steelseries qck heavy. Now using logitech g640. Cloth pad feels better for fps games, at least for me.

I'm using the "Mad Catz The Authentic G.L.I.D.E. 16" Gaming Mouse Pad", quite like it. Got it from Amazon.

Using varmillo softpad - glorious mousepad also not bad

Stay away from the amazonbasic pads, they are terrible, the edges aren't stitched and they're "sharp"

using SteelSeries QCK Soft cloth (my fav) on top of my powerplay supporting G Pro :s13:

the hard mousepad caused me Ganglion Cyst at the wrist area and feel painful over a long period of time, after using soft mousepad it help to reduce the symptom, improved and no longer appear to be painful. The cyst seems to be subside too.
