If I don't have any devices running iOS 8 but I update my mac (already on Yosemite), will my photo stream on Aperture continue to work? I understand the photos app is now integrated, so I'm just worried updating to the latest version will break my workflow.

must reset PRAM and SMC after upgrading... my 2009 MBP13 was extremely slow until I reset the PRAM and SMC... now, back to normal.

The best way to upgrade to Yosomite from Mavericks is to erase and restart, right?

That depends if you experienced any issues when your upgrade from Mavericks.

If no issue then stick to it

If you want then clean install also can
