Actually nothing special about this one. There will be some places that SingTel 5G/4G signals would be worse than StarHub 4G signals.

When the signal is really weak, no prioritization can help. In this case even 5G+ Priority cannot help. The 5G+ Enhanced and 5G+ plans mainly help on the congestion situation.

From my own testing, StarHub 4G signal coverage is pretty decent, main problem is congestion. That is why many eight 4G plan users are complaining.

StarHub/M1 5G coverage is a bit weaker than SingTel 5G if you look at the overall picture. But again it will depend on the location. There will be some locations that StarHub/M1 have better coverage.

which is puzzling, how to fix weak signal and / or congestion? by installing more base stations or increase bandwidth in each base station?

Yes and yes, subject to the limitations like budget/ROI and practical constraints (like underground MRT stations).

In the end, you will always have coverage issues and congestion issues, since the investment can not be justified in some locations.

That is why Singtel is leading the way with ERP for mobile networks. Aka 5G+ Priority where you pay more to avoid congestion.

Nothing is perfect. It all depends on how the telcos slice the pie. 5G+ is mostly used for mission critical applications like autonomous vehicles. Consumers may get only a small portion of the pie.

Called Priority Plus, the 5G mobile plan targets consumers who value smoother gaming, streaming and browsing island-wide – even in congested spots like concerts or malls.

For a price starting at $55 a month, consumers get business-quality assurances such as four times faster surfing than regular users, unlimited local data allowances and automated protection from phishing and malware. The concept was borrowed from what Singtel has been offering businesses.

Technically, the concept is difficult to execute for the masses as some radio engineering modifications had to be made to ensure the 5G signals that ensure faster, safer lanes for surfing blanket the whole island. Most business implementations for such priority surfing do not need island-wide coverage.

Mr Ng was coy about revealing the business returns from the new plan, but said: “We’re seeing very positive results and are continuing to innovate to offer more value to our customers.”

Hmm, not as if we pay $55 / mth we will get fast speed even in underground MRT. Another case of ivory tower motherhood statements?
