I've tried it once a couple of years ago just to experience what it was like. Engaging a tour agency as a solo traveler does have its drawbacks, such as slightly higher price since you will be having a room all to yourself instead of sharing with the usual travel companion. Depending on which countries you are traveling to, some meals are conducted in a 'family styled theme' like you would expect in a Chinese restaurant or steamboat place which may be a little awkward if you do not make an effort to befriend people in your group. Sometimes friendlier people within the group may invite you to join their table, but that isn't guaranteed. Other than these two situations that I've mentioned, the rest of the package tour experience is pretty much identical to when one has a traveling companion.

An alternative is to fly over and join local short tours catered to foreigners. Then you will be able to meet more solo travellers.

travelling solo is addictive. just dont get to used to it.
i have travelled to many places such as china, india , egypt and most of South East asia.
fantastic experience as most of the time
1) i stay in hostel
2) does not follow tours
3) meet new friends
4) try local food!
5) travel like a local(especially in india, taking up their cheapest train ride. eg. 6 hours train ride for $3 )

but the sad part is , sometimes you see something beautiful, no matter how many photos or video you take, you can never best experience and share it, if you are travelling alone. sometimes its nice to have someone to travel as well! but other than that, its awesome.

i do have a girlfriend, but she doesnt like to go places i want to go. therefore i did it alone. especially india(1 month of travelling) . lol which i just came back there 2 weeks ago.
