Recently bought 2 x Sapphire R9 290 Trix and planning to build a new pc using them as crossfire. Will I require any cooling for the new pc? Heard the reference cards run hot. I have a older pc. Was thinking of upgrading its graphics card by buying another powercolour pcs+. Thanks for your advice.

TriX isnt using ref cooler. It is using their own custom cooler which is quite good le... U upgrade to powercolour pcs+ 290 like pointless...

In a way, it will run hot de... Only way to cool down 2 volcanos is to go thru water.

BTW, what are your rig specs? Should update your profile.

Oh I mean i am planning to build a new pc with the 2 sapphire cards. Have an existing old pc with nvidia card. If running crossfire in the new pc need water cooling, then no choice run one each in the old and new pc. Then no need powercolour for the old pc.

If you r gonna run in Xfire, you gonna need Z series mobo and at least 850w psu.

Otherwise, just run 1 card will do.

Water cooling would be good if you wanna bring down the temps to 50-60 C.

A Z87/97 mobo is not needed. Infact, any mobo with 2 pcie x16 slots and certified for cross fire works.

B85/H87/97 will run at x8 x4 instead of x8 x8 in Z 87/97.. The x4 lane will bottleneck your x8. If so, might as well dun go for xfire/SLI...

2x R9 290 surely will heat up a small room pretty fast in today hot and humid climate.

What sort of cooling is recommended for crossfire 2 x sapphire trix?

I think if you are not running at 1440p, just sell away one of the card and use one will do. If not you will have a small heater in your room. If really want cooling then will be like what the others said, watercooling.

Ic. Thanks for all your advice. I just use the other one on my z77. Original plan was going to use both sapphires on a new pc with new 1440p monitor and buy a powercolour on the z77.

My friend did told me just leave the casing open or use water cooling. But we not sure what water cooling solution to use.

Custom wcing lo or like those G10, but the cooling of ram will be abit troublesome and ghetto hahahaha like using cable tie with fan. But in the end all those heat is still gonna dissipate somewhere which is to your room~

So even with a single 290, watch dog perform below 30fps? If it is, the game is severely unoptimised.

When walking in buildings yes you can get around 60+ fps, but while driving especially in high speed, can dip to 30 to 20 plus
