In Kyoto, anyone experience about Arashiyama visit ... I read about interesting information like riverside meal, Bamboo grove, kimono or street foods, roughly how much time require for first timer? Consider my visit in Kyoto 3days plan..

I really like arashiyama

Can spend a whole day there.

If u can afford, stay one night at arashiyama.
Very nice at night and early morning without the crowds.
If not, go early in the morning before the crowd.

There is also a very good tofu themed kaiseki restaurant there, near the river.
"Shoraian"
Also a decent kobe/wagyu beef place too.
"Boruta"

Can go river boating, walk to top of the park for view, bamboo grove, temples

The street food is overrated i feel.
Standard went down.

Thank you for the information. Very helpful . I only been to Hokkaido and a long time ago. How forgiving are the locals of tourists that can't speak Japanese fluently?

That is comforting to know. My biggest worries are getting around in public transit and understanding the signage.

Directions are color coded. Use Google map to see line, platform etc can get used to it pretty quickly.

IIRC, Shoraian is strictly by reservations. Not sure about Boruta. Was considering that tofu place last Nov. Skipped that and ate something else.

Only street food I ate was taiyaki. Too crowded everywhere during peak autumn. I did make reservations for breakfast and dinner in Arashiyama on different days. And of course a round trip on Sagano Torokko Train.

No loss for not eating Shoraian. In this day and age they still insist on calling in for reservation and jap speaking only. When I was there last year, there were only 2 tables (my table included) of 4 guests in total. Food was so-so nia.

There’s too many food choices in Kyoto city. We are happy with just ramen (too many to choose from) in Ichijoji area. šŸ˜‚
