Sony a6000 - is this a defect?

There is this mode when viewing the photos on the camera:

A more detailed photo view mode I guess. However as you can see, the dark parts of the photo keep on blinking like that. When viewing another photo, its very bright part also blinking.

Is this a defect? If not please let me know what it's for.

im not a sony cam owner but it is a feature to show if your picture is too dark or bright. Sony a7 Zebra pattern - YouTube

The only thing that's wrong is your lack of knowledge in photography. The flashing sections are to warn you of underexposed/overexposed areas.

you can turn that off. its a setting for over/under exposed area.

The only thing that's wrong is your lack of knowledge in photography. The flashing sections are to warn you of underexposed/overexposed areas.

The user's manual does not tell you "how to do things" but instead it tells you "what's this for", and I have read thru all explanation they provided in the user's manual, no references to this thing.

The user's manual is really a cheap piece of crap comparing to the manual I had once with my previous nikon D5100.

There is a toggle for "zebra" but it's for another thing, and is already off.

Anyway, to answer your earlier question, it is not a defect.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the "zebra" setting is for shooting only and not for playback.

Also, I believe this mode is for exposure - histograms and the blinking areas. If you do not need it, change it to another playback mode (toggle View Mode) to view the images instead.

I just bought and did not read any camera settings, it's all about playing around your camera. Patience needed don worry, and don let criticism down you just enjoy your A6k will do. I really like the A6k due to ergonomics and charging with micro usb cable which no other brands can give you. you can buy all adaptors cheaply and get some manual lens to use rather than their carl zeiss ones
