Sony A6000 Owners Thread

i'm using the 18-135mm. IQ wise though can't be compared with prime lens but is much better than the 16-50mm and 55-210mm. it doesn't have power zoom so you have to manually turn the lens ring to zoom in and out. it also doesn't display the zoom distance on the lcd or view finder so you probably need to take look at what distance you have zoom in.

the corner sharpness is definitely better than the 16-50 kit lens. if i'm not wrong 18-135mm is light than 18-105mm, very much lighter.

the min aperture is 3.5 - 5.6, day photography is not much an issue since most of the time you probably set it to F8 - F16 for the shoot. night or low light photography i have not tried with this lens as i have prime lens with wider aperture which are good for low light/night photography. F3.5 is not good enough for reasonably good low light/night photography.

the different between 18-105 and 18-135 apart from the max zoom distance and power zoom is the aperture size. fixed F4 vs F3.5-5.6. however, F4 or F3.5 or F5.6 to me is not much a difference in day photography as most of the time am using F8 - F16.

have not tried with video so can't comment on that.

Thanks for the reply! In the end gotten the 18-135mm. Definitely beats bringing the 16-50mm and 55-210mm lenses. And the weight is lighter than 18-105mm by a bit.

you missed the great len! sony 16-55mm f2.8. first zoom len sharpest. i know it's abit expensive.

I'm looking to get into photography as a hobby. Did some research and decided that I might get the Sony A6000 (body only) + Sony 35mm F1.8 lens to get me started.

I'm looking to mostly use this for travel, taking portraits,landscapes and architecture. Is this good enough?

Btw I'm intending to buy it from a carousell user called goodphoto - will set me back 932 in total, anyone deal from same sellee before?

Also, since I'm an absolute novice, is this purchase really justified or should I just stick to my Samsung Note 9 for casual pictures? I'm just asking as I think Singapore is quite small and I'm not sure I would be able to use the camera much in SG other than when travelling.

Any advise would be appreciated!

i suggest to get a6400 + sigma 16mm f1.4 or sony 16-55mm f2.8

because a6400 got HLG, 4k video and touchscreen. sigma for sharpest and best low light due to f1.4. sony 16.-55mm for sharpest + versatile

i don't need 4K output... but i read that it overheats up easily in our climate.

i havent heard of any overheating issues...but the battery life so limited...battery will die off before overheating issues can kick in?

or u charge while using the camera?

cant advice as i mainly use mine for photos...

perhaps gopro/osmo pocket would be more suitable for videos because of optical stabilization?

ya, a6000 is an excellent camera for photography.

i don't see a reason to buy anything more advanced unless one is going into videography.

I think this will be rather dependent on the lens u use? I have the Sigma 16mm F1.4 lens and I think it is a very good lens.


otherwise if we were to judge based on the sensor size, all the alpha6000 series are APS-C sensors but they are still smaller than the alpha7, alpha9 series which are the full-frame sensors (assuming bigger sensor size = capture more light passing thorugh = better low light performance)
