Still worth to get a6000? Price for body is 499.

kind of depend what you want to do with the camera to see whether still worth or not.

there are A6000, A6100 (newly released), A6300, A6400, A6500 and A6600 (newly released) Sony APS-C in the market now.

all can do 4K video except A6000 so if you doing a lot of video and want 4K, A6000 is out. the focusing mechanism is also different for A6000 vs the rest. only the A6500 & A6600 has in-built stabilization mechanism meaning it doesn't required the lens to have OSS compared to rest of the model. unless the lens is pretty heavy which make your hand non-steady, most of the time should not be a problem for photo shooting. for video recording it is different story as it will be better for the body to have the in-built stabilization. there are still some differences, you can go Sony website to compare.

for pure photography view of point, for beginner and people doing for hobby, the features of A6000 and the price level it is now probably worth it. if you on a budget, A6000 probably the best of the choice as you still need to invest in lenses. lenses especially the good one be it zoom or prime lens is no way cheap. the price of A6000 body cost $499, the price of A6400 body costs at least double of that. take the Sigma f/1.4 trio prime lens (16mm, 30mm and 56mm) which touted to be the best at the moment for Sony APS-C, the price is $400+ (for 30mm) and $500+ (for 16mm and 56mm), the difference in price between A6000 and A6400 is enough to invest in one of these lens. most probably couldn't spot any difference in IQ with the Sigma lens on either A6000 or A6400.

the workshop teaches u the functions of the sony alpha camera in general...

i will say good to go for it (since it is FOC anyway) to learn about ur camera...

unless u are a pro already and have more than 1 DSLR/mirrorless camera etc, just collecting the alpha range of cameras for fun?

Ah thanks. If it's just the functions then probably not for me. Been binging youtube for stuff on this cam already haha.

depend how much zoom you want. the kit lens is 16-50mm only, you probably can buy in less than $200 in lazada (taken out from the set) but IQ is not the sharpest. you can read those review online to know that.

if you are looking at < $1000 type, the 18-105mm power zoom (very heavy), the 18-135mm (released last yr and an alternate kit lens for A6400). clubsnap got 2 sellers selling that from $550 - $580 at the moment (refer my earlier post). these 2 lens if you don't mind buying 2nd hand, should be able to get it between $500-$600. both of them IQ is far better than the 16-50mm especially the corner sharpness.

if you don't mind using the zoom lens for FF, the kit lens for A7 (FE 28-70mm) can be bought $200+ in Qoo10, ship from HK, taken out of the A7 set. though it is for FF but can be used on the APS-C set and the IQ is surprisingly better on the APS-C than on the FF camera probably because the corner softness being cropped on the APS-C sensor

there is also the 55-210mm probably you can get it around $200+ but at those zoom range unless you into bird watching or sport shooting else the zoom is too much for normal use.

if you have the budget, willing to pay more than $1000 for a zoom lens, there are couple of good options but the new one 16-55mm F/2.8 just released costing almost $1800, think you can get it around $1500 from lazada is probably the best among the best in all the zoom lens for APS-C so far. the range is almost identical to 16-50mm but IQ is totally different. the constant wide aperture of F2.8 is the first among the Sony zoom lens. in the past, the widest they could go is constant F4 or F3.5 in those varying model (meaning at shortest focal length it is F3.5 but as you zoom into longer focal length, the maximum Aperture is either F5.6 or F6.3). however, this one no OSS (lens stabilization) compared to the rest. another minus is the short focal length range max 55mm only.

so depend on your budget and the type of use.

received some seeking advise from me regarding recommendation of lens. i'm afraid i'm not pro enough to give. type tonnes of words might also difficult to get the point across. probably showing some photo shoot i did can give a clue of what type of lens is good for you. pardon the lousy photography skill as just want to illustrate at what focal length you can expect the image size to be.

the 18-105 weighs 427g while the 18-135 weighs 325g. 427g is heavy to me not sure you can feel the weight or not. i have the 7artisans 60mm f/2.6 1:1 macro lens, that one weighs more than 500g and i can't hold steady when doing 1:1 macro shoot so need tripod.

budget $700 can get the 18-105 or 18-135 2nd, can be found in clubsnap. i bought mine 18-135 2nd from clubsnap at $500 after the seller used only like 3 mths, so that is a steal to me.

Photo you take is raw than pp or jpeg?

RAW, i don't like JPEG. then i use the Capture One 12 Express (Sony) free version to post edit. didn't do much edit also as i just click the Auto Adjustment which comes with the software. the software just adjust Contrast & Balance, HDR, Levels. also used the built-in styles to apply for the various scenario i'm shooting. not a lot of post editing required. if i need to do a lot of post editing means my photography skill is suck to the bin already

to add one more point. image sharpness is not something post editing can do to make it perfect. it is more of the quality of the lens. you can use contrast, highlight, shadow to try to make it sharp but once the image crop 100%, 200%, you can straight away tell the sharpness is due to the lens or post editing effort.

Stick to Sony cable for data transfer. Third party cables usually dont "comply with sony usb standard", power charging is pretty much ok.

i have one those 3-in-1 (lightning, micro usb and usb-c) connector from UGreen is able to do data transfer from my a6000 to my mac.

just some info to share, maybe some already know. the a6000 or a6400 or the general a6xxx series can actually do a 2x zoom using the Clear Image Zoom setting (default is optical zoom). image does suffer a slight but mostly unnoticeable quality. however, this only work when picture is taken in JPEG mode only. for those who shoot RAW or RAW+JPEG, this feature is disable. so for those who have the kit lens 16-50mm, can change the setting (Zoom setting) to CIZ and at 50mm actually function like a 100mm focal length lens. for those with the 55-210mm, you can actually get a 420mm super zoom in.

so for those with the 18-105 or 18-135, changing to this setting can actually zoom in like having the 55-210mm for bird watching or sport shooting.

for those with the prime lens like sigma 16mm, sigma 30mm, sony 35mm, setting that can actually do a portraits shoot.

this feature is not a total replacement for zoom lens for sometime when traveling it is very convenient like when you are on the sigma 16mm wide angle, suddenly you want to do a quick close up shoot but not in time to change to another lens, this feature can serve the purpose.
