Sony A7II for starters?

Hey everyone, i've recently picked up photography due to my work requirements. I've worked with full-frame DSLRs and I really love the amount of light I'm getting with a full frame sensor.

I'm deciding to purchase a mirrorless camera for myself, and looking at the SONY A7II. Not the A7III because i do not want to spend that much.

Is the A7II a wise choice at this point of time? or are there other mirrorless cameras worth looking to buy? Budget <$1.5k

A7II is a good buy for beginners even for today, solid sensor and have IBIS. Just get more spare batteries.

My friend got a Sony A7II and hardly use it because he can't afford good lenses. Why not use an APS-C camera instead? I'm using a Sony A6300 and everything that comes with it (lenses, gimbal, etc) is so much cheaper since you're on a budget. And it's smaller and shoots 120p videos. The A7II can only do 60p. Plus, battery lasts longer. The only ONLY drawback is the smaller sensor.

well the consolation is he can still use "cheap" APS-C lens on his FF A7ii (in cropped mode) but that really defeats the purpose of utilising the FF sensor.

also he has IBIS over your A6300...

why settle something lesser than full frame? TBH, with how technology move now.... APS-C will die out to full frame in maybe the next 5-10 years?

Weight is also a factor to consider. FF is a lot heavier than the APS-C system. FF cost a lot more too ( Glass and accessories like a good tripod)

I moved on from Sony Nex C3 to A6000 then finally on A7iii and can really feel the extra weight on FF. Maybe becos. I'm using the 24-70f2.8 GM. (vs a 1670f4 CZ when I'm on A6000)

It's very obvious Sony is focusing on FF, there have not been a new APS-C lens for the longest time. So FF is the way to go, if u dun mind the weight.

Budget a good tripod too. A Gitzo series 1 is good enough imho. I bought a series 2 right from the start and I did not use it much becos of the weight

If u r considering APS-C, u can get away with perhaps a Gitzo series 0, which cost a lot less too

35mm is a bit short to get a good background blur. Of course can be done, but not easy

well TS is already sold on the FF sensor so yes i would also start with the A7ii instead of the A7iii the 600+ vs 100+ phase detection points looks like i'm missing out on alot over 3years of technology advancement

A7ii is a pretty good if not shooting really fast moving scene. Low light is definitely better than apsc in my opinion. Heck I even tried it with Sigma apsc lens, it's pretty sharp if your are not printing in very large format.

In fact I might just get the body to go with my smaller apsc lens :laugh:
