Hi,

I got this camera as a gift from Japan so it's a Japanese model. The menus are all in Japanese obviously.

I've been trying to figure out how to change the language but I don't think it's possible. Searching the internet and it seems only the international version allows language to change.

Anybody know otherwise? I don't know anything about photography so this camera is probably a bit of a waste on me if I can't change the settings.

I upgraded the firmware recently to v1.10 using the download from Sony UK website but it's still Japanese. Seems it's a single firmware is for all regions.

Wonder if there is a way to change the language using the firmware?

Thanks.

Sony and Panasonic cameras menu only in Jap and the firmware cannot be flashed.

They released firmware upgrade for this camera in Jan this year, v1.00 to v1.10. Applied already a couple of days ago and worked fine. Some fixes about noise and vibration apparently.

There's only 1 f/w package to download. I downloaded from English website and it still worked for my Jap camera but language remained the same.

I guessing the f/w package detected the language and installed the regional software or it's more complicated and only updated a specific partition or something like that.

I imagine it is possible to change language via f/w if Sony let us but they won't as the Jap version is much cheaper than the international version. Fair enough I guess. Just annoying.

Thanks :)

Actually, I already downloaded the English manual. It does help. Guess the more I use it the more I will remember.

Was hoping there was a way I could change the menu language, just for convenience.
The manual does show how to change the language.

Yes but that option is missing from the Japanese version. Trust me, I've checked every setting numerous times.

I suspect that's what Japanese brands do with their Japanese domestic models. I had another brand (Panasonic) that is a Japanese domestic model, it also can't change language even though the manual for the international model shows a menu setting for that.
