i am using it. The output is great but if you dont need the wifi/nfc and tilt screen function, you can always take the first generation.

RX100 first gen- happy user here, I think it is a great blend of quality and size, I need it to be handy. It really depends on your expectations and type of photography u do.

hope brands like Nikon, Pentax, Canon, Panny, Olympus, Fuji etc start producing 1" sensor cameras so we have more choices in this range.

Guys,
Thanks for all your reply. I am also RX100 first gen owner since March last year. Just sold it to a colleague overseas recently and thinking of getting the 2nd gen as replacement. By the way I got my 1st gen set in HK simcity outlet at a much lower price than Sony outlets with HK warranty.

I am very happy with my RX100Mk2. Output is great for a compact and is with most times. And I have taking photos for the past 30+ years.

Had been using the RX100 for taking photos of my makan sessions. Very pleased with the results and the small compact size.

I had the RX100 and then the RX100MkII. Output is good, but the flash is not very good in balancing light to produce a natural output. With some tweaking of the settings, you can get nice flash balance, but its more work. But with Fuji cameras, the flash balance is much better with hardly any need to tweak anything.

I have 1st gen RX100 and am very pleased though i have some concern do this camera required dry box. i only have this cam at my home. My warranty has expired so i don't want fungus to attack my sony lens. My lens got damaged 1 month before and paid $350 for repair. heart pain :s13:

super sharp for the face and backgrd is blur.. super pro type. I remember my fren used a DSLR with a small flat lens to take soemthing like dat. but much nicer and face much sharper than the pic abv. (the pic is jus for illustration)
can this camera do this and better than the pic?

Yes it can but no, NOT BETTER than a DSLR with a large-aperture prime of course. This involves physics, and there's only so much that can be done with a small sensor and lens.

If you really need to have that high level of background blur, you either need a DSLR, or need to use post-processing. Mind you, the RX100II has a built-in background defocus effect where it blurs the background in post-process.

You want "super pro type" pictures from a small compact camera... *facepalm*

But go ahead, buy a "super pro type" camera and lens. Will cost more than the RX100II, weigh 10x as much and be 15x as bulky.

Middle ground: Get an RX10.

i've got a few cameras and the rx100mkii is the one i find myself using most - its the best "specialized generalist".

the rest of my gear:

- 5dmkiii best quality but biggest size and heaviest
- nex5n second best quality with reduced weight/size
- x100s best small package and quality but single focal length
- s110 best portability (jeans pocket) but at expense of quality

let me put it this way - let me know if you want to buy any of the rest of my gear:)

No it can't. The camera doesn't have a large enough aperture as someone else mentioned, you're also (probably) not going to get an image that sharp, sorry if you were hoping for that. I believe this is shot using a prime lens, probably an old manual focus Minolta mounted on the Panasonic DMC-G2 (based on exif data). The lens made all the diff

But with some creativity you could create something similar, as a guide shoot at the most zoomed in focal range with the largest aperture possible and here's what makes a big diff; the composition. Place the subject near to the camera while the visible background is something very far away
