Unfortunately, good design comes with a very hefty price tag.

And Sony is quite well known for making pretty computers that have no options for subsequent h/w upgrades (i'll bet the RAM is soldered on as well).

So, thanks Sony, but no thanks. I'll just seek out a cheap touchscreen-enabled netbook to run Windows 8 on.

I would love to buy this kind of toy.. but question is how long can the battery
last , 2nd and the weight is worth to carry around for the day. Lastly the
price tag is far to high for a Windows 8 to runs on this kind of hardware
design..

If you look into other brands like Dell or HP would be in good price range
that is we can buy. If not I stick to my Android platform tablet which is
more than enough to surf on the move.. No point of carry $1.5k and above
which you can see peoples on the trains are carry Android tablets or
iPad.

Same here. And I am sure there are no options in the warranty to exchange a battery.

I was considering buying from Sony US store since it can be a few hundred bucks cheaper. But I am worried about charging it more than warranty.

Price range wise, I think we will be paying for a novelty rather than the functionality. I am glad the specs are decent at least.

Remember the Vaio Micro PC from 2008? That was even more out of our reach compared to this. We do know that the W8 platform is much better tcompared to the Vista OS which the Micro PC was running on.

If we are looking at a successor to the micro PC, then the Vaio Duo would be the best bet.

Though frankly I am quite surprised that I first saw Samsung with this idea and then they tossed the idea out of the window.

And now Sony is actually selling it. I forsee this being used at home more than used on the move since it is twice the weight of an iPad and also its uptime is close to 1/3 of the iPad only.

I am also considering Duo 11 but seems like the review at laptopmag.com isn't favorable. I like the idea of an integrated keyboard since this is going to replace my current 13 inch lappy. Still waiting for more reviews to come in before i splash my cash. Also looking at the Dell convertible which is cheaper.

Btw, Malaysia Sony is selling it at RM3999, might be easier to buy there and bring back than importing from the states.

Will there be a warranty issue if we buy from my neighbour? i dun mind going over just to get it if the warranty is international.

The last time i checked, some models com with international warranty, but not sure if it is the same for Duo. Guess need to check with the Sony store before purchase.

Thanks. just checked on Sony MY, they only sell the i5 model. no i7 model. guess i got to wait for sg to launch. thanks.

I frankly think that the i7 model is a little not worth the splurge as you (or at least I) won't be using it for gaming. Not even casual. Ha ha...

Have to agree with you on the gaming part. justification that i gave myself was that i can spread out the amortisation longer. well i5 does that job well too.

Yeah, the 11" inches is not going be much for gaming. And plus, I think I would want the intel 4000 graphics card to last and especially at that purchase price.

If the vaio has a discrete card though, I would absolutely get the i7 - especially since I am in the market for that size of a gaming laptop, after being disappointed by alienware when they removed that 11" gaming gig that I was hoping that they would update with sandy bridge that time.

Got a friend who is in US now and he's getting it for me. Now the question is that is it worth the US$300 for the i7 with additional 2GB ram more and 128ssd. its 1199.99 (i5, 6gb ram, 128ssd) vs 1499.99 (i7, 8gb ram, 256ssd). any thoughts?

If only they can customise in 2 days (i5, 6gb ram and 256ssd). haiz.

Just found out that HK is cheaper than US and MY. The i7 version is almost $750 more than US. Think will stick to i5. Got international warranty too. Price is hk9980.

Gotten my Vaio Duo yesterday. Core i5, 4GB Ram and 128SSD. So far so good. Will give a review after spending some time on it.

International warranty. It's stated when you register. You can check Sony style hk website. Stated there too.
