I think the audacity to price this minimal upgrade at almost $2K is going to turn away a lot of customers willing to give them another chance.

After the crappy and possible lemon 1iv that I bought on pre-order at launch, this time round I will wait for the new Pixel Pro to be announced first before I make my decision. Supposedly there will be a major OS refresh for Android: https://www.theverge.com/news/661483/google-leak-material-3-expressive-android-design
Time to jump ship to other brand liao

Sony is premium unlike the rest, they are like Mercedes Benz, Vivo is Toyota, Xiaomi is Kia, cannot compare based on specs.

Who here is getting the upcoming 1Vii ?

@Toader surely will be getting one?
No, they are more like Jaguar and Infiniti, struggling luxury brands

Battery is 3 hrs shorter than Xperia 1Vi.

Pros

  • Functional and comfortable design, quite compact for the times; IP65/IP68 rating.
  • Two-stage shutter release button.
  • microSD card slot and 3.5mm jack like in the good old days.
  • Full-featured camera app with both point-and-shoot and advanced modes.
  • Extreme telephoto closeups.
  • Possibly the best ultrawide camera on the market for stills shooting.
  • Excellent selfies.

Cons

  • Competitors already offering IPX9 rating.
  • Only 256GB of internal storage.
  • Charging is slow.
  • The telephoto camera produces soft results in general.
  • Videos aren't as sharp as we'd like.

I suspect the AI is causing some battery drain in there, when the newer chip is supposed to be more efficient.

I am not overly concerned about the camera, seeing most smartphones are having generally good performance in photography. But for the price of almost 2k, the internal storage is quite depressing.

The videos that he captured for demonstration are really not sharp gosh.

And the bokeh mode is embarrassing. You can see the messy artefacts around his arms area.

Can it beat LG quad dac!

That is probably still the best in market.

Bought one some yrs back just for the DAC. Ess Sabre quad dac tuned by Meridian. Powerful enough to even nudge my HD800s. But unfortunately because of android os restrictions need to get a special audio app to bypass and access higher fidelity audio.

I'll wait for a good second hand deal on japanese classifieds and reship via buyee or zenmarket

This is one reason why consumers are annoyed when there are variations between different markets.

No idea why the double standards across different countries.

But there is a microsd card slot so all is not lost I guess.

More painful is that their 512gb is cheaper than sg 256gb version.

SG to them is counted as 2nd tier market

Their 1st tier market is Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong
