Hey aqf, am I hearing it right? The LTE Edition has phone function, meaning it'll work like a phone, can make calls, sms etc?

Yup , as explained by carlover, it can function as a phone.

In fact, it's not a new function on Sony's tablet. Z2 and z3 tablet LTE version all along can use it as a phone.

Once you login with your Smartphone and it will detect which model you are using, if you are using Xperia Z Series then it will upgrade to Gold Status in the Xperia Lounge.
