I want to replace my old Desktop with a Laptop. Kindly help with your inputs to select better laptop.

Do not move the laptop as the location is fixed.

Usage,
Internet
Microsoft office
Video (Downloaded contents)
Games - occasionally
Scan application.

What processor I should choose?
Memory?
HDD size?
Display size and resolution?
Graphics adapter , memory for graphics?
Any other information/specification ?

Thanks

15.6" screen. i3 or Celeron processor. 4GRam. No need graphic chip. HDD 350GB or swap to SSD. Don get con into buying high spec processor and graphic chip when u don need them, they consume unnecessary power and generate extra heat.

Since you're fixing the location of your laptop, and space appears to be a premium since you're looking at laptops instead of a desktop, then I would suggest the following:

1) A cheap laptop with a i5 Intel processor, at least 8 GB RAM. These usually come with a 1 TB or 500 GB HDD. My suggestion is to replace the HDD with an SSD (128 GB will do). And then use the original laptop HDD as external storage for all your files. You won't lose your files if your lapto crashes. A simple 14" screen will do. Replacement can be done at Laptop Clinic at SLS for only $30, they'll clone the SSD from your HDD. The increased speed is very significant.

2) Buy a large monitor, say 24 inches. Connect up your laptop to the monitor. You can close the laptop and place it behind the monitor to save space. Don't have to switch off the laptop, just put it to sleep, wake up using a wireless keyboard and mouse.

3) I do this in my workplace, saves a lot of space, enough power for what I need to do and have a large screen for my work. Choose a monitor with speakers and connect the laptop audio output to the monitor and you will get decent sound.

I would recommend an Acer, try to get a cheap one that has a 14" screen.
