My sister didn’t say many words till she turned 4 years old. Now she is 30 years old and doing well in life.

Some kids are late bloomers. Don’t worry too much.
I didn’t speak anything much in sentences until I was 5 years old accordingly to my mum but yet I am still fine. My daughter seem to pick this up from me and still babbling at 28 months unable to string words but my sons are able to speak in sentences at 18 months.

My 26 month old still babbles a lot during communication. Still uses non-verbal cues. However, when reading books, he can count 1 to 10 clearly, letters A to S and what the letter stands for up to D.

Sometimes he'll say the odd words here and there but it's all during his book reading time.

Brought him to a speech therapist when he was 22 months old for assessment. 1st session including assessment, total 1.5hrs = $270. Follow up was for an hour = $170.

The therapist cleared him from autism and said she was confident that my son was taking "his time" and should show improvements by 2.5 years. The good thing about the therapist is she constantly keeps in touch with me and gives me materials to read to engage the kid...at no cost.

I'm still monitoring him, will update as and when there's a new milestone or advice that might seem to be effective in accelerating his learning curve.
Hi all, just an update. My kid has made considerable progress, with the use of some words to communicate such as "sit down/stand up", "Shee Shee", "poo poo", "mask please" and a few more others. It also depends on his mood...so that's something I've noted as well.

With regards to words, his vocab has expanded, can name most farm animals with 2 syllables... And one with 3 syllables which is elephant. Can count 1 to 11 in English and 1 to 5 in chinese.

He follows instructions with multiple steps more accurately than before so that's also encouraging for me.

From the last post to date, I did not approach the speech therapist but I definitely spent more time pretend-play with him followed by books and flashcards. Rewards for correct answers are a high five and his favourite biscuits.

Tbh, I no longer touch work when I reach home to have this time with him... It's either this or that, and I think I know what's the right choice.

I'll update again in a month's time.

Very good, I can see that you have put in the effort to help your son and you can see he is making good progress. I see you are using flashcards. Is he able to read yet? If yes, I will share with you another technique you can use.

I highly recommend extending his vocab skills if you are making good progress. Two things you can try, if you think he is ready
a. colour
b. prepositions

Colour
Recognition and ability to use colour, stretches anyone creative mind and extend their ability to describe an object, a place or a thing.
a. You can say, put the yellow ball in the cup. You demonstrate and he follow. Then you have blue and yellow ball and check he picked up the right one,
Once he can master colour, you can transpose the usage of colour recognition to daily household task. Eg put the white socks in the blue bucket. Then you can use colour pencils for role taking.

prepositions
We all take it for granted as it is inherent in us. For others, it is a world of confusion. The easiest preposition to start is "in". Then you can branch to "in front" "behind" "under" "between" "off " "on" and the list goes on.
