Yup, for a direct entry inspector, the application is a long process. This is because they want to vet you and make sure you are right for the job, as direct entry inspectors are most likely to end up as a Commanding Officer somewhere.

You know how high the appointment of a Commanding Officer (CO)? Even at lower appointment like Officer Commanding (OC), it is still not up to fresh Inspector to hold that position.

Most likely start off as an Assistant Team Leader (A TL) in Neighbourhood Police Centre or Division before your next posting to become an Investigation Officer (IO). Maybe after your IO posting, you may become a Branch Head or OC of an unit.

I'm saying that their end goal, after 20+ years of service, that a direct entry inspector would end up as a Commanding Officer somewhere, not a fresh inspector.

icic. Btw, what is your comment about current direct entry inspector compare to their counterpart like SAF & SCDF who have direct CPT scheme for those with good Hons degree?

As far as I know, SPF no longer has a direct ASP for those who graduate with honors, but those with honors will definitely receive higher pay than their non honors counterparts.

Therefore, I find it's unfair to compare SAF and HomeTeam personal, as one CA sign on during his BMT and receive a 2LT rank, but those OCTs from the police, once they sign on, their rank reverts back to SGT.

Before anyone says anything, SPF does have a scheme that lets NS Inspectors keep their rank, but nobody as far as I know has taken it, as progression is certainly slow.....

Actually you are not right on this. For example, most SAF Officer vocations only require a Diploma which is the reason why Officer remain their status if they sign on. Now they have ME scheme & if Officer with only Diploma wish to sign on, they may needs to start at ME1 instead of ME4. I'm not sure but maybe relevant officer vocation may allow to convert to ME4.

This is the reason why SAF & SPF do not want to complicate case & prefer not to select them for signing on cause it is a rank demotion in a way.

However I know those who have a Diploma (Nursing) can sign on ME4 which used to known as Nursing Officer under Officer Scheme. They are able to do so because of their Nursing Licence to become Registered Nurse (RN) (In the world, RN needs to have Degree & only few countries like Singapore only needs Diploma to be RN) & not because of their Diploma.

Haha, only way I know is A/Insp & correct me if I am wrong. JO will put under A/Insp & if can perform, will sent to C course & pass out as P/Insp.

If NSPI / NSI sign on, maybe can consider to put him under A/Insp while holding SGT rank.

1) Then he can perform, go C course & pass out as P/Insp like other JO, or

2) He can perform & maybe can bypass C course (since he already attended the OCC (longer duration course) for fresh NSF & Regular which he will be directly promoted to P/Insp?
