SSD Compatibility and other recommendations

Hello

It's my first post in quite awhile and I haven't really been keeping up with hardware stuff for the past few years.

I am looking to upgrade my SATA SSD to a m.2 SSD but I am not sure if the SSD I'm upgrading to is compatible

• Current MOBO: MSI B150 Gaming M3, Spec Sheet
• New SSD: Samsung Evo 970 Plus

1. The spec sheet it says that the m.2 slot is "1 x 2280 Key M(SATA) ", does that mean that there will be no difference in speed when connecting the new SSD to the m.2 slot from my current SATA slot connected SSD?
2. In order to get the to get full NVME speeds I'll have to get a m.2 to PCIE converter and connected the SSD to an PCIE slot?
3. Is Samsung Evo 970 plus a solid SSD? if no, are there any recommendations?
4. Any recommendations for wall mounted monitor arms?

NVMe SSD does not work in your motherboard's M.2 slot as it only supports SATA M.2 so there's a difference in the interface being used. A solution to this is to buy PCIe to NVMe adapter as you mentioned (PCI_E4 Slot for your motherboard as it supports PCIe 3.0 x4) but if you wanna boot off NVMe then you must be using UEFI as CSM/legacy stuff wouldn't be supported for PCIe boot. That NVMe model is very solid but there might be similarly specced models with better pricing so maybe wait for someone to lobang any good deals.

1. it will not work for the ssd u getting since its only supporting sata mode. if u want find those using sata mode.
2.. yes. but still depends on which converter and your board max is pcie 3.0 so if u get pcie 4.0 ssd is still max pcie 3..0 speed.
3. well it is but the failure is still lottery from time to time and if u want others maybe u can state your budget.
4. to recommend a wall mount... need to see how heavy is your monitor and how many monitor u intend to mount?

wd blue 500gb is $60 on amazon. no noticable difference between budget nvme and samsung evo

Just get a SATA SSD, difference between NVME and SATA SSD isn't noticeable.
Unless you are doing heavy disk activity like file transfer, video editing etc.
Anyway that board states M.2 SATA so you can get M.2 SATA like Samsung 860
but it's a old model.

Samsung 870 which is current model is only available on 2.5" form factor.

To summarize, is it correct that

1. It cannot work directly with the m.2 slot as Samsung 970 Evo Plus is an NVME drive but my mobo m.2 slot only supports SATA
2. It can work with the with the PCIE3 slot on my mobo but I have to get an adapter
3. With the adapter it's running in NVME not SATA (?)
4. Assuming the rates are not capped by the adapter, it will be capped by PCIE3, as the drive supports PCIE4 but my mobo only supports PCIE3

A few more questions:

1. If I get a SATA m.2 ssd, will I be able to boot of it? (I am thinking it shouldn't be a problem, as my mobo just can't boot off NVME)

As for the monitor arm:

• Currently looking for recommendations for arms that can support 1 or 2 monitors
  I think both monitors are 3.6kg ish (One dell 2419 and an old Samsung sync master)
• Would it be wise to buy "stronger" arms incase I want to upgrade to a better (heavier) monitor in the future?

I am actually considering using the m.2 slot cause I'm abit lazy and don't want to open up my desktop and pull new wires for the new 2.5"

You can look for M.2 SATA SSD but very few shops still sell like the Samsung M.2 860 SSD.

Are NVMe SSD (like sata SSD) also differentiated by presence of DRam?
Now SSD also have direct PCIe interface (add in card like graphic card) for PC.
