SSD/HDD detection problem

Have this strange problem in that the first start up of the computer, the mobo won't detect there's a SSD connected.

Tried turning off then on and it managed to detect and boot to windows 8.

It a new system I got assembled at PC Themes last Friday.


CPU: I5-4670
Mobo: Asrock H87M-Pro4
SSD: Plextor MS5 Pro 256GB
HDD: WD Black 2TB

Have updated the BIOS since it improves SSD compatibility and still this happens.

Anyone has any advise what I should do?

Send the SSD for RMA. This is abnormal.

BIOS no detect or in windows no detect? SSD is your main OS drive?

BIOS didn't detect in what sense? You go into the BIOS and it is not there?

If not there, try changing sata cable or sata port. It should be on either of the 2 Intel Sata3 port.

If it is there, try setting it as the first boot device.

The SSD could have experienced a dirty power down situation and need time to re-build itself because it can be detected. Power needs to be applied to the drive till the rebuild process has completed. And then the drive can be detected.

Most SATA controllers are expected to issue a STBI command to the SATA devices when the system is going to power off. This command will allow the connected SATA devices to know that the system is going to cut off power supply and do the necessary buffer/cache flushing.

In the event if you had done a forced power down, the drive can also experience similiar problems and will require some time to rebuild itself.

Yes SSD is the main drive.

Yes BIOS cannot detect the SSD. Even just the HDD I get it too. Try changing cables and use different port same results.Am using windows 8 if that matters.

If it happens, usually a power down then up solves it.

But I do notice the BIOS seems slow at starting to windows.

Also the ssd and hdd is powered by a single cable from the seasonic 750w psu. Not sure if that will affect or not.

It does sounds like your board have a prob. Might not be though. I usually would recommend gigabyte/ASUS rather than asrock.

I have a previous system with asrock b75 mobo and everything works great tho so I tot to get the same brand for my current system.

Gonna test for a few days and see how.
