SSD TRIM

I have a Sammy 840m pro SSD plugged onto a Win8 box via a Sata 2 (first Gen) port. Is TRIM still supported?

I read that you run a dos command to determine whether that's enabled which I have and can confirm i see it's enabled but there are other sites that say that's just an indication by the OS and you can tell if tRIM is actually running.

any ideas?

TRIM is supported from Win onwards if I am not mistaken.

Also, Samsung SSD should come with the Magician software that you can run garbage collection on, if you think the SSD is slowing down. I believe it is the function call Performance Optimization in that application.

You can run the Optimize command at the DOS prompt in Windows 8 by specifying the drive. The command will check if the drive is a SSD (non-spinning drive), and if yes will perform the TRIM operation. Please note that it only works on Windows 8 OS. In Windows 7, TRIM is executed automatically by the OS.

If the drive you have specified is a HDD, defragmentation will be performed instead.
