SSD upgrade for MBP

I just upgraded my mid 2010 15" MBP from 4 GB to 8 GB Ram and BX100 250GB, similar to your intention, fresh/clean installation of Yosemite. (Got PC thus no need a huge SSD and furthermore my MBP is only SATA2 thus overkill to get any better performing SSDs)

Becareful about enabling TRIM, saw in macforums and was mentioned that TRIM will disable the MBP;

Amazon delivery arrived right on time and I have everything I need.

One thing I wanna check - besides the time machine backup which I have done, I want to copy ONLY the photos to the new SSD and nothing else, ie not the Music Library

If I do a time machine restore, I think it will try and restore everything but there wont be enough space on the SSD so it wont work

Therefore I am just going to do a separate copy of the Photo Library onto a back up disk

When I did that the system said takes 3 days. This can't be right for a USB2.0 Seagate copying 130GB

What could be the issue? Faulty HDD? It's running really hot. I saw my maid left it sitting on top of the Airport Extreme which is hot enough to fry an egg on!

To those that provided input - thanks a bunch. This is a truly awesome upgrade and I'm enjoying my "new" mac. Its unbelievably fast now compared to what it was

To anyone that's considering this upgrade path - totally recommended. It is such an easy DIY upgrade. I only wish I had done it earlier. There are a lot of instructional videos on Youtube that show how straightforward it is.

No need for a new laptop now. Saved lots of $$$

Looking to buy the latest MBP with retina 2015 model. Is there a way to upgrade the harddisk inside? Feel like juz buy the 128gb version and upgrade it with a ssd. I dunno if the latest 2015 version can be done?

The 2015 rMBP's storage is SSD

If you're asking if you can buy 128GB first then upgrade yourself with a 512GB later:
Nope, the SSD is proprietary to Apple so no one sells it except Apple and you have to purchase the Mac with the SSD storage you want when you checkout.

Anyone knows where or who can help to switch the optical drive to a ssd? Not very tech savvy on it and don't dare to DIY.
