Synopsis from movieXclusive.com:
In the suburbs of Tokyo sometime ago, there lived a clumsy boy about 10 years old. There appeared in front of him a boy named Sewashi, Nobita’s descendant of four generations later from the 22nd century and Doraemon, a 22nd century cat-type caretaker robot who helps people with its secret gadgets. Sewashi claims that his family is suffering from the debts Nobita made even to his generation, so in order to change this disastrous future, he brought along Doraemon as Nobita’s caretaker to bring happiness to his future, although Doraemon is not happy about this. And so Sewashi installed an accomplishment program into Doraemon forcing him to take care of Nobita. Unless he makes Nobita happy, Doraemon can no longer go back to the 22nd century. This is how the life of Doraemon and Nobita begins. Will Doraemon succeed this mission and return to the 22nd century?

To be honest, I wasn't too thrilled with the latest Doraemon movie when I first caught its trailer as the computer generated characters looked plastic and slightly different from the 2D versions we have grown up with. I am glad I caught it yesterday as it is possibly the best animated feature of the year. Yes, even better than Big Hero 6.

Contrary to my initial impression, the animation is lively and is able to express the naunces and unique personalities of each individual characters we have grown to love. While the past Doraemon movies almost always seem to feature some of the gang's fantastical out-of-this-world adventures, Stand By Me stood out as it remains firmly grounded as it explores the relationship and enduring friendship between Nobita and Doraemon, which forms the underlying theme of the comic series. It establishes the reason why Doraemon was sent from the future to help Nobita and asks what happens after Doraemon completes his mission. Is it happily ever after for the two friends or does Nobita have to finally learn to face the harsh reality of life without the help from Doraemon and his gadgets from the future?

The movie is such an emotional roller coaster that it can make you laugh in one scene and break your heart immediately in another. But what makes the movie endearing is its ability to make us resonate with our own personal experiences while growing up and also provide the audience that escapist moment to indulge in nostalgia and reminiscencent about the time when we were ardent followers of their adventures. Most importantly, I think the movie serves as a reminder to us that Doraemon will always be an essential part of that magical phase of our lives, childhood.

Definitely a must watch there are extremely sad moments and happy cheerful parts which keeps the interest factor to me but finally after viewing the credits my friends and I will regret that this is supposedly the last movie for Doraemon from what I've heard

That time I went to GV to watch. For GV, only GV Jurong Point, GV Yishun and GV Bishan have the Mandarin version with English subtitles.

I am surprised that not all cinemas are showing this Doraemon movie actually

Best movie i had watched for so many years, half way through the show, i was crying almost till the end. not sure why i cry,as its just a anime. Perhaps , since i follow doraemon since small, this show really touch my heart some how.
