Thanks! If i recontract today (no installation required), what happens to the remaining payments of the current contract?

Asking as I have a final instalment payment of my Nokia beacon 1 that will only be charged around late April.
I am not 100% sure, but I believe there will be no issue on subscription as the new subscription will take over. With regards to the equipment, if it is rental, then starhub will take back the old box. If the router was purchased on installment, then you will be billed for the remaining amount in instalments until the final payment.

Thanks! Do you know if there is pro rated refund given for the current month's payment?

hi guys, seeking advise here

looking to sign up for starhub 1gbps for my new bto unit. Currently I have TP Link Deco X68 (3 units).
The modem will be placed at the DB Box.

Is the 3 Deco mesh units sufficient to provide coverage for a 5 room BTO unit?

If I add an Asus router (considering AX86U). Would it provide faster speed ?

Modem == Asus AX86U == Deco x68

then another 2 Deco x68 units will be placed around the house directly connected via cable to the data points

Hi

I am a current singtel fiber (1gbps) and tv user (jingxuan + chinese movie... both are similar to starhub asian tv pass), but the contract for both have expired. I am already paying $110 monthly.

Planning to switch to starhub bundle... 1gbps + starhub tv (asian), with viu premium and netflix inclusive. This costs $78.63 monthly, excluding the tv+ box ($5.96 monthly) and the smart wifi router ($5.05 monthly). Factoring in all, i should be paying $89.64 monthly.

Is there any downside to this? Will appreciate if there's any promo code to share or any suggestions on this. Thanks!

1. You may have to put a router in the DB box to use Ethernet backhaul. Depending how bad the DB box will block wifi signal, your wifi coverage may not may not be good enough. You may want to post the floor plan with details of the locations of the DB Box, ONT and LAN ports locations.

I will suggest that you try it first before buying the Asus RT-AX86U. You will also need to add a gigabit switch like the cheap TP-Link TL-SG105 (below S$30) as the Deco X68 does not have enough LAN ports.

ONT -- Deco X68 main node -- TP-Link TL-SG105 in DB box -- LAN ports in the rooms
LAN ports in the rooms -- two Deco X68 mesh nodes

2. But if you are willing to pay for RT-AX86U and put it in the DB box, then yes you will see two improvements.

ONT -- RT-AX86U as main router in DB box -- LAN ports in the rooms
LAN ports in the rooms -- three Deco X68 mesh nodes

a) RT-AX86U has strong CPU and FW features and long term support. So you can enjoy the features. And you do not need the swtich in the DB box.

b) Now you can put the three Deco X68 nodes in three places and this should give better Wifi coverage. You need to set up the Deco in AP mode.

If you are okay with using the Starhub TV+ Box interface (which is using Android TV OS operator version, locked down to prevent side-loading of apps outside of Google Play Store), then it should be okay for you. Some families have old folks which can not stand the new interface and prefer the interface of Singtel TV STB or the Starhub Fibre TV STB, where they just need to click the channel number on the remote control.

The other potential downside is the choice of main router if you need to watch FTA channels on the Starhub TV+ Box directly (not through MeWatch app). The free Nokia Beacon 1 is very bad (I thought they have discontinue the Nokia Beacon 1 but now it comes back). The Nokia Beacon 2 is also not so good so you may want to consider upgrade to Linksys Velop MX4200 (Starhub Smart WiFi Pro) which is at S$12.11 per month compared to S$5.05 per month for Nokia Beacon 2.

BTW, there is no point to get extra Nokia Beacon 1 or Nokia Beacon 2 from Starhub as you can get BNIB units at much cheaper price from Carousell since people are dumping them.

Is the promo code FREE3MTH valid for those signing homehub too?

I do not think it is valid.
https://www.starhub.com/personal/bundles/homehub-plus/1gbps.html
  • HomeHub+ 1G with Entertainment+ or Asian+ at $78.63/mth for new sign-ups only
  • Add StarHub TV+ box at $5.96/month
Top up $5.05/month for Smart WiFi (WiFi 6) router
But I tend to believe the add-on cost should still be valid. You can confirm with Starhub.

- Nokia Beacon 1 at $3/mth --> Not worth it
- Smart WiFi (Nokia Beacon 2) at $5.05/mth --> not so good and not worth it, buying from Carousell is cheaper
- Smart WiFi MX2 (Linksys MX2001) at $8.07/mth
- Smart WiFi Pro at $12.11/mth --> this is probably the one to go with

Why is nokia beacon 2 considered bad? I am living in a 84 square metres 3-room flat so I guess the wifi coverage should be ok?

Yup, i am now looking at nokia beacon 2 at carousell and some are selling at $50 only, much cheaper than 5.05*24= $121.20. I hope starhub fiber broadband 1gbps is comparable to my current 1gbps singtel.

I am confused by their promotion. I wonder if i can get the starhub tv and fiber broadband separately vs getting the entire bundle since getting separately seem to be cheaper overall.

Nokia beacon 2 is not good due to the lack of internal antennas in it comparing to mx2001 and mx4200 plus the processor is not as good as the linksys ones.
mx4200 is a triband router. mx2001 is a dual band router.

For 3 room flat it is better to have 2 routers mesh up for better coverage. Due to house have different infra and layout alot of factors may hinder or affect the wifi signals. one router to cover all 3 rooms in the house very likely not enough.

Lastly yes you can get BB (broadband) separately with the different passes (entertainment+ / asian+ / indian+ / malay+) but will be slightly more expensive

Nokia Beacon 2 should be better than the super lousy Nokia Beacon 1. So if you want to give it a try, go ahead as it is cheap. If you can put it in a central location, it may well be okay for you. Worse case may be to get another Nokia Beacon 2 to form a mesh if single one is not good enough.

When I say it is not so good, I am comparing it with the two Linksys.

Okay, if using ONR means there's double NATing, well will that affect stuff if you are trying to setup a homelab where you can establish a VPN to RDP back to a home server? Not sure if home asus router with DDNS will help

have a question rgd starhub fiber, understand it will be supplied with ONT.

if i plan to have 2 routers in my home, can i have each router connected to 2 different LAN ports on the ONT? or does #2 router have to be connected to router #1 as an AP?

thanks, assuming I get one of the bundled routers provided by starhub as the main router but i use my own 3rd party router for the access point, will starhub be able to assist with the 3rd party access point setup?

2) With Starhub TV+ Box
Then it is better to go with Starhub provided Linksys Velop MX4200 (two units).

ONT -- living room LAN port 1 -- main MX4200 in the living room -- living room LAN port 2 -- Switch in the DB box (cheap TP-Link TL-SG105 will do) -- main bedroom LAN port -- MX4200 mesh node

Main MX4200 -- Starhub TV+ Box
MX4200 Mesh node -- 2nd Starhub TV+ box if if need that second box
Hi, thanks for the response! Really appreciate it. If my 2 LAN points are at opposite ends of the living room and I only have one LAN point at my TV console, is 2 MX4200s enough? Or will I have to get 3? Intending to get the TV box as I will be watching premier league
