Thanks! Sorry for the noob qtn. I’m confused because I thought if no roaming, then can’t connect to any local telco, how to receive sms
You will be able to connect to any telco in the world without needing to buy a roaming package, just that you don't get data, voice and outgoing text services without buying one.

to receive sms locally, you need to connect to your isp network

similarly to receive sms overseas, you need to connect to your isp partners network.

so roaming is a must !!!
but on your phone, just need to turn off "Data roaming" to avoid incuring un-necessary overseas data charges.

Yes, no roaming means no phone call, no sms, no data.

That's in correct. Is no roaming. Yes, you still can connect to network, but emergency call number to local emergency service only.

Some phone may still able to receive sms example, for Xiaomi phone if you use mi service for sms. That's going via WiFi or data plan if you happen to have a 2nd local sim for data.

Yes, correct. Confirmed can receive SMS overseas, as mentioned by this Bro Crystalnox.

I use it to receive OTP from banks etc overseas without any roaming packages. Note I also switched it to 3G to avoid accidental data usage.

Anybody have issue port in to giga from gomo? My porting was unsuccessful as shown on giga email. I tried to contact gomo but the cso is not human one.

I tried to submit the application again, suspect the previous submission select wrong operator. Do i need to port to singtel first?

The number confirm under my name and IC and gomo shouldn't have any contract.

You just have to keep trying to get a human agent to resolve it, only they can tell you what is the issue. Try asking for a "human" or something on their chat, spam until you get someone.

I suspect the owner of the no. is different from when u sign up gomo or giga respectively, cuz I tried to port to giga using my name but the number is tied to my mum's name.

Similar experience when port in to giga from MyRepublic, more than 5x port in failure.
After multiple chats and emails exchange between both sides CSO, keep telling me incorrect info bla bla. finally resolved myself by: the selection for operator changed from MyRepublic to M1.
Bingo.

Giga have new plan 40GB for $20 first 12 mths. After that is $30. Quite cheap IMO

not bad indeed. it is better than circles life base plan which comes with pathetic amount of talktime. (although CIS has unlimited for everything though for $18 on first year)

only prob is giga does not support outgoing call at roaming which i find it less attractive.

becos the amount of talktime and sms are already given by myrepublic lite $10 plan. if one can survive with 6gb it is actually a better plan since it is for limited time too.
