i just tried my giga number on the go yesterday in city area. I noticed giga had a very weird problem. when started using, no problem at all, could surf etc can even did youtube streaming. speed was ok also.

after a while, suddenly the connection cut off. signal showed full bar and LTE, however, just no data, totally could not do anything. even moved to different location still the same. Needed to manually restart device in order to surf again.

not too long later, same problem happened again and only the same action mentioned could resolve the problem.

i find the user experience for giga quite bad. maybe it is only for me but this was i experienced.

anyway, i am not really going to be giga, purely just to grab the free number, porting into myrepublic mobile today.

if just reconnect to cell tower is required like u said, why don't u try on airplane mode then off airplane mode?

Check APN....

Not APN issue. It was Giga all the time. I even try to change to other APN and it did not work.

I just wondered why this happened in the first place. Never encountered this problem with other SIMs from other telcos before.

Was at parklane shopping mall and the data connection couldn’t work at all when I needed to submit my particulars for Safe entry despite the connection showing full bars. Restarted my phone and it was the same.

Looks like I was not the only one.

Obviously giga! has connection issues.

I rmb seeing some APN settings that needs to be configured when activating the sim card via the giga app. Even though I didn't do as stated, I tested and and was still able to use the sim card. Not exactly sure what will happen if I don't set up the APN.

On a side note, I realized for TPG if I don't set APN I'm unable to turn on mobile hotspot on my iPhone, but data connection is fine, still getting LTE signal.

iOS or Android & through Singpass? If iOS through Singpass, think someone reported to Apple about similar issues. User was on M1 network.

No problem with scanning QR Code though.

most SIM card can use without manually configure APN despite the instructions say so.

TPG hotspot on iphone must manually configure.

Giga also needs to manually configure APN to use.

So far other SIM cards from other telcos that I have used were pretty much automatic.

You are not alone, basically starhub connection is always this bad. I would only go for either M1 or Singtel. Only get the giga just for the number.

Depend on your area. I have no issues with Giga most of the time.

But I do encountered weird connection as my workplace.
I will get 4G/4G+ every in the area surrounding my block but H+ at the canteen downstairs :s22:

to be fair, when i was on starhub sim only last time. i have no issues with their connections at all. that time i have free weekend data, i tried to use as much data as possible on my iphone, i can hit 8GB++ easily when i was out from noon time until 9pm++.

problem is that had full LTE signal yesterday, but totally no connection on my Giga sim card. this was not acceptable seriously. it happened recursively somemore during the period when i was in city area.

Depend on your area bah... I have no major issues with it in general.

Slightly better experience than my previous telco CL

Agree with you.

Recently I signed MR but signal is really bad while both singtel n giga worked well

Sent from HUAWEI VOG-L29 using GAGT

Since MR uses Starhub, and giga is a sub brand of Starhub, that doesn't make sense.

Either your phone has problem or MR is screwing things up.

Not for me.

Generally Singtel > Starhub > M1. But it really depends on your area and office.

M1 (and circles) was virtually unusable in my office which is located in the CBD. Sometimes my colleagues on M1 or circles wouldn't even get my WhatsApp message.

Singtel and Starhub: absolutely zero issues in my office.

At home, all three telcos are fine.

Agree with you.

looks like it is a genuine problem faced by many.

i have no issue with circles life at all. even myrepublic mobile is ok. that's very bad for giga.

That's in the past with the legacy UNO plan which is still on Starhub.

MR currently riding on M1 network; which is well known for its Low Latency and allegedly the top local network

You having regularly once a day prompt (network drop) with Singtel; which has best coverage in Singapore?

Wow.. like that I better go back to M1... no point waste my time with other telcos liao, just be satisfied with looking at the spinning circle of M1 trying to connect :(

Makes sense now. Poor decision of MR to switch to M1.
