whats a good router to replace the dlink RG from starhub.

im on the elite 150mbps plan without voice so i wont need the voip part.

also in this case, whichever router i get, wont need to do any configuration for the internet? just get starhub to switch to direct and give them the new router mac id am i right?

you don't even need to provide the new router mac if you are on direct ONT.

ASUS Black Diamond Series.

so once i tell them direct ont any router can use liao? and even the starhub dlink one still can?

*edit - ok just called starhub to switch to direct ont and the guy on the phone appears to know what it means. he said will take about 2 days and will call me back to inform me. he also said that on direct ont mode, the dlink set given by starhub cannot be used :s13:

hi,

i read again that you said my other wifi/modem won't work because my ONT is configured to recognise dlink router only.

but for my intended setup, i would still like to use dlink at the modem, but would like to add either the 2wire or PACE unit to act as a wifi router.

so the setup is something like this,

dlink (modem) >>---> 2wire/PACE (wifi)

since i still intend to use dlink as the modem, do i still need direct ONT?

both 2wire and PACE are single band routers, I don't see any difference if you were to change them.

The reason why it won't work is that your ONT is configured to recognise the dlink router only. If you choose to use your own router, you have to call starhub and request for direct ONT.

The reason why the technician is getting 70mbps is because the router was on 40MHz bandwidth at point of test, when the router detects more boardcasts on 2.4GHz band, it will auto revert to 20MHz, which results to the 30mbps you are receiving.

yup they told me the same thing.

in direct ont mode, can use any router with it execpt the starhub dlink one :s13:

you already know ma.

to be honest, you are still able to use the Starhub N5402SP if you know how to configure it :)

you don't even need to update any firmware to be able to use it :)

When ONT is enabled means supplied Gateway will not work and need to reboot?
When my connection is loss means Starhub has already enabled my ONT correct?

then will my intended setup works?

anyone can help?

i can't say for sure but should be. If i can use a 2wire mio to do it i don't see why can't a PACE

hmm... there are alot of forms of "bridge" - it only depends on how many extra hops you are willing to do with it. - i might be wrong also.

the simplest, is to plug gateway to router's LAN instead of WAN. and use it from there.
