if you gonna direct ONT and get asus N56/N66, go for option 1 coz ASUS router don't have telephone port for VOIP. I think most of us would take option 1 if we're not particular about having the additional surfboard modem for voice.

there are also other options,

3) if i'm not wrong, you can also get the surfboard modem for voice, and not request ONT. But you'll still be using the d-link router.

4) Same as 3, but starting from there, have to do some slightly trouble settings to use the ASUS router without the d-link router.

just letting you know your options

Personally, i'm using option 4 (had the old surfboard cable modem for voice from the cable days)

By option 4 you mean you connect your router direct to the ont without informing starhub? And thus have to input the settings in the router ui manually? I understand if inform starhub no router settings need to be done am I right? Thanks

Your macbook simi card. Telling us is an air does not help u or us.

ANd... if you indeed set your router wireless to 802.11n only, your mac can never connect to it.

I was unable to load yahoo.com and singtel.com intermittently. (page cannot be displayed).

Was advised by starhub tech to disable ipv6 either on the PC / router.
Now my pages load, but it seems to still pause 5 secs at (waiting for yahoo.com..) before it load.

I am using a Linksys E1200 router. Will upgrading to an Asus RT56/66 help with my issue?

Why do we have to disable ipv6 for pages to load? Must I use an ipv6 capable router? Is the Asus 56/66 ipv6 compatible?

Starhub fibre supports ipv6?

I am confused right now on what to do next.

1. Not really.
2. google for answer, lazy to explain.
3. not that i know of.
4. Nothing, write to Starhub and blame for their incompetent

Can't help you on the intermittent disconnection to Yahoo's and SingTel's websites.

I'd say upgrading would help because RTN56U and N66U are more renowned compared to the E1200, but that does not necessarily mean that all your connection problems will be solved.

Disabling IPv6 goes beyond the reason of "I don't use it so I disable it", but I do not know the exact reason, so you may want to consult Google for the explanation. If you want to use IPv6 on Starhub, it will not be native. You will also need an IPv6 router, which includes N56U and N66U and a couple of other routers.

Paiseh...its a 2011 Macbook Air with a AirPort Extreme Wifi-Card (Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (5.106.98.100.17)) and supported PHY Modes: 802.11 a/b/g/n

Macbook Air can connect to the D-Link which is indeed set to N-only. Unless the GUI cock up?
