for those interested in the new toy:
"crippled" by starhub firmware
Some things I can say about the N5402SP:
This model is specially custom made for Starhub and no versions for retail/other ISPs exist before this; this thing was custom ordered as an alternative for the Huawei because Starhub already knew the Huawei sucked a year ago. Ignore the copyright 2005-2007, the guy who did the firmware copy pasta the UI from some old D-Link product.
There is indeed an admin interface for Starhub login only which will expose more stuff. Nope, I dunno what the login info is.
then what is the point of saying it sia. haha

for those who already know my speed with my Huawei... do you think it will be even better?
kind of tempted with the even better performance... but scared it underdeliver.

haha... well - it is a gamble
just like me... i gamble it and it paid off.
the last max session i've tested with this router is approximately 15k.
i am trying to see if it could at least matches the engenius 9850
that will be put till when im free but so far it is kinda promising.

yes if lan to lan cmi no reason for me to go ahead with a wan to wan another day
it all depends on your needs. is your choice, your call.
the only issue huawei has not many.

in order to use your huawei wireless as well, enable your wlan instead of disabling it on the huawei.
Just got my Starhub MaxInfinity Ultimate fibre broadband activated today. If I place my laptop next to the Huawei HG256s router, the WiFi speed is good, about 70Mbps. If I connect ethernet cable between the HG and laptop, even better, can reach 100Mbps. I used broadbandspeedtest.starhub.com/speedtest.
THEN.....I connected ethernet cable between HG and my Aztech HL110E homeplug (200Mbps specs). In another room, I connected my laptop to the WiFi signal of another homeplug (Aztech HL110EW, 200Mbps specs also). This 2nd homeplug (has cable and Wifi capability) is of course paired with the 1st one already. Unfortunately, speed is only 20Mbps. Now if I connect ethernet cable from laptop to this 2nd homeplug, speed can go up to 40Mbps (but still slower than the 100Mbps that I got above).
What could have caused this slowdown once the homeplug is introduced? My homeplugs are rated at 200Mbps, so theoretically they shouldn't be bottlenecks. Does the powerline itself have some throughput limit? Should I buy some higher-speed homeplugs? Thanks for any help.

if you even bother by a tiny weeny bit you will have realize that post #1 already posted results on a 200Mbps plug and 500Mbps plug difference.
you want to exhaust your 100Mbps connection via a hplug? go get Aztech 115EP else - there is nothing you can do.
up to 200Mbps is a bull****

even 1Gbps connection doesn't really gives you anywhere near 1000Mbps for many devices.

OK, thanks for pointing out. I've since read through quite a few pages already. Your connection shows:
Huawei Voice Home Gateway HG256s -> EnGenius ESR9850 -> Aztech HL115EP (500Mbps) -> Aztech HL115EP (500Mbps)
Why do you need to have a router (EnGenius) cascading from another router (HG)? Is it because HG is mandatory by Starhub, but does not perform well?
Also, if I want Wifi at the other end, looks like I am better off using D-Link DHP-306AV? (as HL115EP has no Wifi).

2. note that you be then be bottlenecked by the WIFI speed from DHP306AV as well.
my wlan is enabled on huawei, but when i try connecting it now it can't identify server.
is it something to do with the settings or the router itself? im currently connected to the wifi on my 3rd party router ie TPlink.
turn on DHCP on huawei as well and determine if you could connect or not.
