Your post at 10.24 pm yesterday where you said "starhub is a troll hahahas", which gribber rightly called you out on.

oh. dont seem like a "story" to me.

give the subscriber VoIP, but the modem and router that came with it doesn't have VoIP support... sounds troll-ish to me :s13::s13:

are you saying that Starhub only gave you the following:

ONT

OR
hw6Q6Bg.jpg

AND

D-Link DIR865L
DIR865Lfront.png

simply these 2 units alone?

when you actually subscribed to VoIP services?

the VoIP service is part of the signed package. i upgraded from the old cable to fibre. the old cable one was a all-in-one gateway which has phone line support.

i was only given the black ONT + dir-865l

Currently, how did you use your VoIP?
Are you using your Starhub Cable Modem as the VoIP modem?

Tried calling Starhub to tell them you'd like to have the N5402SP instead?

Note, a fibre connection requires an ONT + <router/modem/etc> here. No more a AIO in a box (for Starhub that is).

With your current setup, i believe you are on Direct ONT. Did you opted for it ?

Sideline:
if you want an AIO router, i don't mind swapping my N5402SP with your 865L though.

I recently signed up for home hub, was offered ont +dir 865l and another cable modem for voip.

i was also given a choice of having a all in one modem.

i was offered that setup and they didnt provide me with any other options...

I'm just wondering how come they didnt provide any alternatives for the voip setup.

what's the all-in-one modem for fibre? i dont think there's any, right?

i still have the AIO from the previous plan but it's a bit wasted to connect it just for the telephone line. takes up quite a bit of space also.

anyways, nice try gribber. the 865l is worth at least double of the n5402sp.

1. Impossible
2. Your thinking is wrong
3. Huh?
4. Then keep it then.

If your attitude is going to remain so ****y then dont reply. I dont own you anything for your wrong mindset of facts.

I bet you chose the direct ont because you wanted the "pricier" router. Then now come crying for troll and what have you got. What dont have and things like that.

Everyone has a choice. You made yours.

nice assumptions. maybe you think that you know everything?

of course you don't OWN me everything, or rather, OWE me anything. I never once said you did. I posted something, and you replied. if you don't believe what i said, then don't reply.

the fact is, starhub only offered me that ont + router setup. you are not the starhub POC, what makes you think it's impossible?

do you work for starhub, or are you a diehard starhub fanboy? cos you sound like one.

you should learn how to manage your expectations when you try and force your own assumptions unto someone else because little kid, ain't nobody gonna be oh-so-thankful for that. :s13:

Hi, I have a starhub 100mbps fibre plan and my router is about 2 walls away from my pc. I always thought homeplugs are angelic devices for dead spaces at home like my room, so I felt troubled when the average speed I get on my PC is 20mbps.

I have tried direct connection as well as standing next to it, both direct and wifi returned good results - 100++ mbps.

How can I improve my pc's internet connection? I don't want lay additional cables though.

Thanks in advance!

your 20mbps is after using homeplug? i've read somewhere that the effectiveness of homeplugs is determined by the power cables, and may not work the same for everyone.

the best is get a good router. most of the higher-tier routers out there should be able to pass 2 walls, but that also depends how far away are the walls and the router. glass and mirrors affect the signals the most so keep a look out for those too.

the best solution is still lay a cable and plant a router in your room. you can lean it against the wall to avoid having it look too intrusive. those flat cables actually dont look that bad it your tiles/walls are also of the same color.

Return the router and get the 3000 points. Ask for direct ont and get an Asus router.

There is no "all-in-one": the fibre connection is terminated by the ONT and every fibre subscriber needs to connect a router or gateway to the ONT. The ONT does not need to be changed if you switch ISPs and will continue to work.

And the D-Link DVG home gateway they used to provide, which integrated Internet access and VOIP into one router, had such ludicrously bad wireless performance that sufficient customers complained to get Starhub to change the router offering to the current 865L, at the expense of having to get an additional modem for digital voice.

It's not really a case of trolling when you already have a voice-enabled cable modem to access VOIP services with. It's very much intended to save you the headaches of really abysmal wireless performance, unless you have a better wireless router/AP to connect/bridge to the D-Link integrated gateway or something.

In which case, you should contact Starhub and convey to them your (rare) wish of swapping the 865L for the DVG home gateway. Not sure if you can just purchase it from them or something. And the home gateway needs to be registered on their side or something for it to work.

I think the point here is that Starhub has already made a big move in heeding customers' complaints and phasing out the infamous DVG home gateway. We aren't fanboys or representatives from Starhub, but I think we have to be objective here. Gribber and many of the more experienced Starhub subscribers here know because we were (repeatedly) conveyed explanations by official Starhub reps about how the setup works back when the DVG home gateway was still being distributed and we wanted to replace it with our own routers.

thanks for that.

once it passes the threshold (havent been able to find out how much that is), the internet will just stop working completely for like 1 minute, then it will be automatically restored...

i wished i had a asus ac66 hahas

anyways, the plan came with VOIP, but the router doesnt have any telephone line.........

starhub is a troll hahahas

This is quite bad. I am currently on M1 100mbps @ $39 and have never faced disconnections. The speed and stability have improved in fact over the last 1 year, perhaps due to competition. If Starhub offers the same service plus cable and VOIP, i am sold. Channels for the red and orange teams cant make it, except for football fans.

Set the DTIM period to 1 on your router and I believe it will solve your issue.
