If you are a trader with short term horizon, Starhub is not for you.
If you are an investor with long term horizon (> 5 yrs), Starhub is a must buy.
The dividends are attractive. 4 payouts a year. 7% "interest".

Starhub at $2 is probably a pipe dream. For that to happen, I think we will probably be in a bear market which means that apart from Starhub there will be probably more enticing opportunities out there.

And of cos, if that happens, how many people would indeed be brave enough to take a bite, not knowing if that is the bottom or the beginning of a series of successive lows?

My personal experience is that while many would say they will buy this share at $X (X being a substantial discount to the current price level) but when it actually does hit $X, the same people would be ducking for cover. (Myself included)

I think $2.50 is probably a most realistic entry point for Starhub - given the current market conditions.

(Vested)

i know i would. after so much analysis haha. i was about to post this at my blog but to help discussion post it here first

since ipo at 1.30 it reached a high of 3.2 before a 41% drawdown to 1.80. current price hasnt even reach back that high. we are still on an uptrend and if it goes below 2.70 then i think we can look to collect lower.

this last leg if bear will take it to 1.60.

paul the best way to explain is for them to see your result after the next bear market.

starhub vs SPH..
imo looks like starhub is doing better on all fronts.

Comparing apples and oranges...
Starhub is a good bagger in its own right... I got it in March when people were selling and this counter turned around after the announced 20 cents dividend...
It is my only vestment so far this year that is in the green ATM...

not comparing in that apple/orange manner..

to many people, these 2 are the usual "high-dividend" defensive stocks always mentioned
i comparing them as i used to have Starhub, but sold liao..
and m beginning to realise starhub is the better of the two, fundamentally

May I know what does Yield mean ?

Yield = Amount of dividends per year / Amount you paid for a stock.

For example,
A person buys 1 lot of Starhub now at $2.70

Starhub gives $200 dividends per year for 1 lot of shares.

Yield = $200/$2700 = 7.4%

IF SH drops to $2.50, sure collect a few lots. Regret selling mine so early :(

Something drastic must happen for it to drop to $2.50

After the Japanese tsunami, the price dropped significantly to around $2.60

That was the lowest this year so far.

as said in the singtel topic, for people who like to know in depth on telcos and whether an industry wide shift will occur in telecoms industry do read this 3 articles by Micheal Mace.

Starhub to pay the current 7.2% needs 340 mil out of their 600 mil in operating cashflow. Capex goes up your 340 would go down if they do not monetize well.

There are alot of noise now on the 3 telcos saying their plans can deliver so much yet the actual throughput is very low. IDA might come in for this.

hi.. can anyone explain to me what does it mean to monetize? and what would be considered as monetizing well?

and some say that with the introduction of cross carrying content among the telcos here, starhub will stand to gain the most.. bt i do not understand why is it so.. anyone can help?

thx alot in advance.

actually it is quite hard to say. cross carrying will benefit starhub if they can get BPL from Singtel.

when we say monetize we are saying how to package services that consumers demand and ensure you profit from it.

when we discuss monetizing the content providers, its like you set up an application platform where u profit share 40%-60% with the content providers, you help them advertise users use their services.

other forms of monetizing is in demand services like karaoke and such but with more monthly costs.
