Starhub port blocked

Hi friends, I host a plex server from my place with remote access but suddenly my remote access isn't working. I did not make any changes to my computer, plex or router. It stopped working last week

After troubleshooting, and I tried hosting on my main pc etc, remote access also does not work, and scanning my ports, I can't see any ports open on my external up address.

Just wondering if anyone has encountered something like that and has any ideas to fix it, or advice to ensure that the port can be open, I have tried both manually forwarding the port on my router (tp link EB810v) and used upnp for testing but neither are working. I see the ports being added on the upnp table in the router's interface but when I scan it, it's closed. Is there something I have to do in the ONT?

Hoping someone can help a noob out on this. Thanks in advance

How are you testing the remote access?

Which starhub ip block are you on?

Do you have firewall rules tuned on?
Plex tells me remote access is blocked and I can't access my server from the Internet/outside of the same network. Within the network works fine.

Not sure what do you mean by the ip block? My ip is 182.55.xxx.xxx if that helps.

I do have firewalls turned on. I have turned them off to test, both on the router and host and still have issues.

The sure way to confirm it is not starhub doing the blocking is to connect your plex server directly to the ONT, and see if you can access it remotely.

I presume you are using DDNS and have confirmed the ip address is updated to the 182.55.x.x?

I do have it for other services but not plex. I use the default plex.tv to access so they handle the dns. So that shouldn't be the issue.

OK let me try with the ONT somehow. That will bypass any blocks from starhub? I am also in contact with starhub to see if they can confirm nothing should be blocked but I don't have faith in their support.

Unless there is something special they did with the 182.x.x.x block, do not think there is any block being done by SH. So more likely it'll be a server configuraiton error somewhere along the chain.

That was my thought but I tried hosting it on 2 computers and my shield pro box and all had the same issue so that rules out my plex or server config.

I tried disabling the firewalls. Played with both port forwarding or upnp and I see the right ports being forwarded. So there the confusion lies. And I am not sure if it's normal but when I do an nmap scan or using one of those canyouseeme websites I don't see the ports being open from the Internet side. Netstat shows the ports being open but I can't see from outside. Maybe someone else will know

That's the confusion for me and why I think starhub is the issue. But of course there are many potential other factors I may not be considering.

And also, I did not change anything from my pc or plex setup over the time the only potential change is the restart of the router on Thursday morning. But that's it...

Your reply does not provide any new information to help to troubleshoot.

Did you do a port scan based on ip address? Having 2 different computers do do the test and the same issue persists suggest issue with your router configuration. Are you on a double NAT?

Sorry. Not sure what other information I need to provide. Yes. Port scan vs ip address

No double Nat from what I see. Did a tracert and only internal IP I see is my router.

I would have thought is my router configuration as well but I did not change any settings, I did not get any firmware upgrade, I tried to disable the firewall and did both port forwarding and upnp to test out and no help. With no change to the settings, it just makes me feel it has to be the starhub end unless a soft reboot of the router (not the ONT) caused something over the 2 days

It can not be ISP fault la. You want to play a bit of advanced things, please do the necessary research first.

People often don't realise that 😂 unless it's some gross misconfiguration by ISP and many other users can replicate the issue, I'll suspect user configuration.

Also, upnp is not the best practice for doing port forwarding even if it works for most cases. Firewall has allowed tcp, udp and icmp packets? The easiest step to first troubleshoot is to see if you can even ping your host from an external connection, before even delving into port forwarding in a NAT environment.

Rookie mistake like if you port forward to the correct internal IP address, is it static vs DHCP which may have changed with your machine doing some fancy MAC address anonymisation.

The sure and safe way for most beginners who wants to host their server at home, is to install/deploy tailcale for the server and the client devices you are using to connect. Let tailscale handle the “NAT Travesal”.

You can read up more on tailscale.

Hope it helps.

I only used upnp to do testing because I can't see my port open. It was always using a static port before.

Server is tagged to a static address on my router.

I mean yes, I am not an expert in this. I already acknowledged I am a noob at this and have a lot to learn. And I appreciate people here giving suggestions on what I have to look into. Everyone has to start somewhere. And it's a potential suggestion. I am happy to take it that I am wrong about it being starhub. But I don't think it's a complete invalid thought to have. Everything was working before for months and suddenly stopped working without me making any change to my router or server. Which makes me suspect that it has to be somewhere else. End of the day, yes it seems I am wrong and likely it's something else wrong somewhere since no one else is having any issue.

Have you tried to do a ping test as suggested earlier, or direct connection to the ONT?
Yes. Can ping. Had to just allow for ICMP.
And it works now. Was just on the phone with starhub and I got starhub to get a new external IP address and it just all worked again. No idea what was wrong but now its fine. I can see ports open again and I can access my server again. So maybe somehow that IP was blocked on Plex's end or something. 0 idea but it works. Thanks all for your help.

SH can not any how block unless it is blocked by Government and they have so many users so no time for such thing.

Should be that IP blocked on Plex's end. SH so busy where got time to block users.

Connections deemed “not secured” might be blocked on their end. You should either use a VPN or a reverse proxy server moving forward.
