Hi, I was recently contacted by Starhub to recontract my TV and was told that I’ll need to switch to the TV+ variant as the Fibre TV has been discontinued and would be unable to keep the existing Fibre TV if I wish to recontract. So I recontracted but am awaiting the installation of the TV+ box

So far I have been reading here and found that we would need to use the Nokia Beacon 2 router if we want to continue watching Mediacorp channels on the TV+ box

My question is why can’t we just connect the TV+ to port 2 of the ONT to maintain the Mediacorp channels as per the previous way like the Fibre TV? Thanks

They are using totally different technology with Starhub TV+ box...

I just spoke to a sales girl abt re contracting my Bb and tv (2 passes). The best she offered me is:

1gbps BB: $43.30/mth. Linksys mx4200 router
2 tv+ passes: $30.28/mth (half price for 1st yr. 2nd yr is $60.58/mth)

This is more than what I'm currently paying ($71/mth). Anyone has a better offer? I wna nego w SH esp since I've been a long time customer, almost 10 yrs

I stick with my old contract, pricing no change.

The new so-called re-contract "offer" price was higher than what I am paying

Actually since you have both internet and TV+ passes, you can ask for target recontract offer for homehub+ 1G plan which is the cheapest. Their promotion changed from time to time so the price changed too. If you do not want to pay more than what you are paying now, just tell the person. That Linksys MX4200 is expensive router so you may not need it as you can use any router and any ISP now. May be can use back existing router to save some cost. With 2 TV+ passes, you get Disney+ FOC, with Asian+ you get Viu Premium FOC and for HomeHub+ user you also get Netflix Standard FOC too. So it is value for $. Now Discovery Channel is back to Starhub Channel 422 live. You can call the sales hotline to ask for target recontract offer for homehub+ and the new TV+ box can support 4k UHD TV contents. 18 months and 1 day already can recontract again. Disney+ and Prime Video got 4k UHD contents. For Netflix if want 4k UHD contents must pay extra to upgrade the plan.

It depend on the user. I think quite ok as they bring back discovery channel la. Of course it is not that cheap to sign up.
Yup, some might find it sufficient, but personally, NBA and all those essential channels I signed up for got removed.
So it starts to be meaningless and expensive to stay w SH, might as well I direct to the respective apps which I only need. 🤷‍♂️

Indeed. Mi Stores are selling the good Mi Box S second generation with Google TV at S$65.90, which is a very good deal.
But still does not solve the issue of having the need to sub the services/channels required that are removed by SH TV, ain't it?

That is correct. The reply is to your comment "might as well I direct to the respective apps which I only need."

You do not need Starhub TV+ Box at all. With Android TV boxes like Mi Box S Gen 2, you have the freedom to subscribe to the streaming services you like, for example, Netflix, Viu Premium, TVB Anywhere+, iQiYi, WeTV, etc.

You can even subscribe to Singtel Cast and Starhub TV+ if you like.

Yes this is correct. Actually it is not Starhub fault la, sometime it is the TV contents vendor do not want to sell the TV contents to Starhub la. National Geographic now must watch using Disney+ App. Cheaper to use app la, You buy what you watch.

I agree with you here. Same for Singtel TV.

But I understand that people will get upset if their channel of interests are getting removed.

In any case, streaming services are the way to go.

I am still subscibing to Singtel TV Family Favorite pack since it is pretty cheap at S$24.13 x 50% OFF = S$12.065 per month.

yes for this, it is special case and good for sports fans. Some more Premier+ is in 4k UHD so viewers enjoy more. During cable TV time, it was not so clear and nice to watch.

Yeah, I understand this, I'm lamenting on the facts that the channels are removed, hardware is not the critical factor that is causing my unsatisfaction with SH's services. lol

Understand that, but the prices we pay for especially in Asia ain't cheap to begin with yet we are always getting the short end of the stick.
The whole point of subbing to SH/ST TV services is for consolidation of services, but seems like the market is going towards the way of to each its own.
Which is damn lehceh, and isn't anywhere matching in price, and don't mention even about being cheaper. 🤡

If you're asking, you're likely not the intended.. maybe you are the intended target audience.

Do you have the necessary 10gbps wired/wireless infrastructure with capable devices? Or at the very least, do your devices have the means to go above 1gbps? E.g. 2.5gbps ethernet adapter/controller or WIFI 6/6E? If not, don't be hoodwinked by their bigger-number-better scheme.

But if you do, thank you for your contribution. ✌️
