As per Starhub UltraSpeed FAQ, Ultraspeed 10Gbps as of 29 April 2024 has been upgraded to a commercial plan with no changes to subscribers broadband speed, subscription rates, or contract terms.

They did not mention UltraSpeed 5Gbps, I believe it is also fully launched.

What is UltraSpeed service?
UltraSpeed services includes Ultraspeed 5Gbps and 10Gbps Broadband plans on a 24 months contract. Ultraspeed 10Gbps as of 29 April 2024 has been upgraded to a commercial plan with no changes to subscribers broadband speed, subscription rates, or contract terms.
Migration of StarHub Broadband customers to the UltraSpeed Network will be conducted progressively and we will keep our customers updated.

So existing customer will be upgraded?

Got it. Hope the bros here can give me feedback as I said earlier, im not too technical. If i get this 5gbps, can i make the nokoa ONR like a fiber terminal point only and connect my asus ax88u as my main router? I feel asus brand better to invest for mesh in case i decide. According to the spec sheet, the ax88u 5ghz band is up to ~4000Mbps. I just feel like reusing my existing router 🤣 and i dont intend to max out the speed anyway since im not a power user but i just like the idea of getting amazing speeds.
You won't smell anything above 1Gbps with your current gear.

Save the money for caipng bah. :o

That probably only means the backend will be united. Existing 500Mbps/1Gbps users may get free upgrade in the future, but not so soon.

I am not an expert in this area, the following is just my guess.

1) Currently there may be two backends, GPON ONT -- OLT for 1Gbps/2Gps plan users, and the XGS-PON ONT/ONR -- OLT for 5Gbps/10Gbps plan users.
2) Maybe later the OLT will be upgraded to support both GPON ONT and XGS-PON ONT/ONR
3) 500Mbps/1Gbps plan users may be migrated to 2.5Gbps plan free of charge in the end, say in 2025/2026.
4) Eventually I think all users will probably be migrated to 5Gbps and 10Gbps plans, but not so soon, maybe in 2028 or 2030.

I will stick to my 500Mbps Starhub plan (out of contract) myself.

I just came back from UWC, not sure what I can share but can refer here for info:

Sadly no free U7 Pro only Swiss Army Knife Ultra.

It's a physically big guy with many ports. Not suitable for me. Thx

Weird, does that mean it's still in trial? They seem to have removed the part about it being a 2Gbps plan and specific end date but I guess if they're moving it to commercial plan then it makes sense to not be "launched".

Oh if you want something small but can handle 2.5gbps there is something coming too. Something similar to UCG Ultra.

You trust a CSO who did not know the news yet, or the Starhub website?

If you bridge the Nokia ONR and use it as an ONT, then your RT-AX88U will be the bottleneck as it has only 1G WAN port. So you need to get a better router if you intend to bridge the Nokia ONR.

If you do not mind using the Nokia ONR as the main router (not to bridge), then you can continue using your RT-AX88U as an AP or as a router (Double NAT). If you do not use most of the RT-AX88U non-wireless features, then it is better to use it as an AP.

You can utilize the 5Gbps in the following way. Probably not a preferred way but I am just pointing out a possibility.
FTP --> Nokia XGS-PON ONR as main router
Nokia ONR 10G LAN Port --> to a PC/NAS with 2.5G port
Nokia ONR 1G LAN port --> Asus RT-AX88U as an AP (up to 1Gbps)
Nokia ONR 1G LAN port --> Desktop PC
Nokia ONR 1G LAN port --> Network printer or Smart TV

Commerical plan but how come no typical bb speeds listed yet, can ah?

They are trying to be vague here by saying it is "up to 10x the speed test results of 1Gbps Fibre Broadband over wired connection". You can always complain to them if that is a false claim...
https://www.starhub.com/personal/support/article.html?id=kD5GRQtfxB3LxaEDMjuFm5

What is the optimal speed test result I will get if I have the compatible devices?

The typical speed test result of UltraSpeed plans can reach up to 10x the speed test result of 1Gbps Fibre Broadband over wired connection.
The speed test result is highly dependent on various factors which includes:
  • Devices used (please refer to Question 5 above).
  • The configuration of the devices (e.g. firewall, anti-virus, etc).
  • Period of testing (e.g. peak period or non-peak period).
  • The website customer is surfing. Other external factors such as internet congestion.

1630 sales hotline has confirmed that you are right. The 10Gbps plan has been launched and existing user no change at all.
