Yes you are using Singtel ONR now. Once it is of Huawei brand, it is an ONR.

I believe EB810v in the DB Box (current Singtel ONR location) and HB710 in the center Bedroom (Bedroom 1) should be good enough for your wireless coverage.

By the way, your existing two Singtel issued RT5703W units can still work as well, just in case you want to use them as an AP or even as a switch (disable WiFi). For example, if you have multiple devices in the living room, you can keep the RT5703W there and disable its wireless to use it as a switch.
Thanks for the input! Since the EB810v has to be in the DB box with the ONT, not likely at all that 1 EB810v alone is sufficient to reach the furthest room right?

By the way I made another mistake where I am having AP5690W instead of RT5703W lol. But anyway I guess using it as a switch still works and is a good consideration.

1) Yes, that is correct.
2) It does not matter for your use cases, AP5690W is an AP or mesh node (not even a router) and will work as an AP behind another router (including Singtel ONR or EB810v).

Isn't it a waste if it's placed in the db box as a router because it's wireless signal will be quite bad?

That is a different topic than the CPU comparison.

From what I read in the forum, most of the DB boxes do not block WiFi much. So it is okay in most cases to put the main WiFi router in the DB box. Often you need two nodes solution due to the location of the DB box, not because DB box blocks WiFi badly.

There are other options to put the main wireless router in the central location, I have written a FAQ in the second sticky thread.

Please refer to the following FAQ.

Thank you.

Perhaps can place a cheap router that has 2x2.5G or even 10G ports without wireless function in db box?

10G equals to not cheap in general. 10G capable wired routers are mostly for advanced users and more expensive than HB710 (S$192 from Starhub)

Even 2.5G capable wired routers are not exactly cheap, and often you need to run OpenWRT or other more advanced OS. They are in general more expensive than HB410 (S$120 from Starhub) or Archer BE230 (less than S$100 BNIB from Carousell).

Of course you may be able to find slightly cheaper dual 2.5G ports equipped ARM dev board like NanoPi R5C (2GB/32GB with casing, RMB 408 without power supply, or RMB449 with 5V/4A power supply ) but then you need be more tech savvy to use OpenWRT. The good thing is the small size.

Some users prefer ONR because of this reason, you can save one router in the DB box, but then you need to live with the limitations of the ONR.

I use wired router myself, an Intel N100 mini PC with dual 10G SFP+ ports and dual 2.5G ports, for my SingTel 5Gbps plan. Previously I used an Intel N100 mini PC with quad 2.5G ports for SingTel 1Gbps plan.

Think I saw multi ports mini pc in taobao before, you bought 1 of those?

Cheaper than dumping a 7DR5160 in db box? You were saying 512MB RAM is the least for a router.

Yes, I have bought 4 such mini PCs over the past few years, starting from the end of 2020 (Intel J4105 CPU with quad 1G ports, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, RMB 1169 at that time). My last purchase was in early 2024 using as my main router now (Intel N100 mini PC with dual 10G SFP+ ports and dual 2.5G ports, 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD, at RMB 1328). Of course the mini PCs are much more expensive than the TP-Link China TL-7DR5160 but then much more powerful. They are actually all more expensive than S$200.

I live in an old 1998 HDB flat without LAN ports in the rooms and my routers are in a central location in the living room, not in the DB box.

As mentioned a few times, I do not like the lower end CPU used in TL-7DR5160 even though it has 512 MB RAM -- so I do not recommend using it as the main router. But that is just me. You can always proceed with your own decision.

Something like this? About SGD$135 with shipping.

Yes, you need to add RAM and SSD by yourself if you go with the bare bone version.

Then you have to install certain type of OS to use it as a router. The basic setup is actually pretty simple if you are keen to learn.

OpenWRT:

This one is NanoPi R5S and it will be a bit more expensive than NanoPi R5C I mentioned earlier.

NanoPi R5S

NanoPi R5C

https://openwrt.org/toh/friendlyarm/nanopi_r5c

There are more advanced ARM development board with dual 10G SFP+ ports and quad 1G ports -- Banana Pi BPI-R4
https://wiki.banana-pi.org/Banana_Pi_BPI-R4
https://openwrt.org/inbox/toh/sinovoip/bananapi_bpi-r4

Then there are also new 10G capable wired routers like the bundle offered by VQ for power users. But the report says the FW/SW of Alta Labs Route10 are still not as mature as more expensive stuff from Ubiquiti.
VQ 10Gbps Alta Labs Route10 Bundle with Huawei OptiXstar S800E SFP+ at S$58 per month (first 10 month at S$43).

Anyone who use starhub knows how long their HubTrooper usually takes when setting up the broadband thing? The 5Gbps with ONR (WiFi 6). Thank you.

Very fast, for me swap old ONT with ONR less than 10 min, assuming you choose to configure your own wifi password yourself, nothing much to ask and don't chit chat with the trooper

My installation for change ONR to ONT with TP-Link Router only 6 min and every thing OK. Must do speed test to see got internet yourself. If no internet then ask the person. Also must ask him how to set up mobile app for the ONR. You can download the app now.

I got a very strange problem after upgrading from 500mbs to 5gbs with starhub, some apps on my phone is unable to load at all on wifi (e.g. canton paradise app), some loads partial (e.g. fsmone watchlist), some are slower ( buffering on netflix on tv)

All these issues disappears if i switch to mobile data. And it affects only particular apps, checked with speed test, and connection appears fine.

Tried restarting everything/phone/reinstall apps. Issues persisted.

Anyone with similar experience? Any idea how to resolve it?

does anyone know if hb710 supports usb storage?

What is the router used? Nokia ONR? Or HB710 or EB810v?

Have you tried to change DNS server to see if that helps? You can use Google DNS (1.1.1.1) and Cloudflare DNS (8.8.8.8) to see how it goes.
