According to https://www.moe.gov.sg/docs/default-source/document/education/post-secondary/files/sit.pdf , every course earns around 3k.

For a fresh grad, is 2.5k for starting pay (with good honours) too much?

Also, may I know during that period between not having a degree and graduation, should I be looking for job as a diploma holder or a degree holder?

Thanks in advance. Greatly appreciate it. :)

You can identify your course from the employment survey or a similar course to have a gauge how much you can get. The rest is up to you to negotiate based on past relevant experiences, special areas that the company is looking out for which you happen to have.

If you are about to graduate, e.g. in your last semester, you should apply jobs stating that you are about to graduate. If not, better to stick to current qualification first.

SIT-OU or SIT Joint degrees are not recognised thus they will be cnsidered only div2 so paid only a little higher than diploma

only SIT degrees are recognised to be graduate degree after they get their accredition

There aren't any graduates from SIT joint degrees yet (Telematics and SEEMS started last year and have two more years before graduating). The courses are also too new to get accreditation yet, but they are on track. Please don't assume things.

oh. so for the time being, until i get my degree, i should ask for a diploma holder pay which is around 1.8k? if not, have to wait until i really get the degree upon graduation day.

I think the best thing to do is to base it on your own experience.

If in doubt, it would be best to enquire with your seniors and their asking salaries now since SIT is a pretty new university and the responses might be varied across different employers.

A good gauge for your asking salary could be based off employment surveys as mentioned. However, your potential salary range doesn't only depend on this as a factor, your course and school matters too.

For example, the IT and engineering industry is doing quite well but some other industries are not. This may cause an increase or decrease of your asking salary.

Another factor is the sad fact that when I compared my course average salary to the average salary of a NTU/NUS graduate of the same course, my course average salary was much lower.

I'm also graduating from an SIT-OU soon! :D My classmates and I have already started applying for jobs requiring a degree and some of us have already secured jobs with a salary of more than 3k. So yep, u can apply for jobs at a degree level without your cert. Most companies would ask about your expected/current degree classification though and may make the final decision after you get your cert officially. It all depends on the company.

As a tip, applying for companies where your seniors have worked at could work out pretty well for you. These companies may have a good impression of students from your course and would be more willing to hire you. Of course the opposite may happen.. but keep your fingers crossed. :D

Also, most companies don't really know about our OU or our course so during your interview, they may ask about your OU and also your modules.

P.S. There's a SIT virtual career fair coming up soon, so there's that to help with your job-hunting too.

Good luck!

Hahas, thanks. Yups, but again your industry really plays a big part in terms of your asking salary. Well not sure of your definition of good honours, but my classmates' who have secured jobs have honours ranging from 2nd lower to 1st class. But most of the pay offers so far are above 3k, some companies do offer lower pay but the lowest I've heard so far is around 2.6k.

It depends on the company really, some of us are able to start before getting the actual degree and some companies are only willing to offer the job once we get our degrees.

Oh, hmm engineering I heard there are many jobs out there, but not sure about how well the pay is though but 3k sounds reasonable. I'm not in the engineering industry so my opinion isn't worth much, but I would aim a lot higher than 3k considering that there are many jobs out there for engineers. :O

Also, when applying, I would put a few hundred more than what salary I really want though, as companies may try to give you lesser than you deserve.

Or alternatively, for specific companies, you can check out glassdoor to see how much are they actually paying people in your requested position and just follow from there. Considering that glassdoor allows anyone to post there, it may not be very accurate though.

Hmm.. I started sending my resume in early march (around the SIT Career Nexus period). Well, it took a few weeks before I managed to get interviews, but after the interview, my job offer came quite fast. Generally, MNCs take quite a long time to get back to you as they tend to have more applicants so don't worry too much. SMEs are usually quite fast but may offer lower pay.

This is SIT Graduates Employment survey

Go look at it and have a gauge?

If you are from SIT-OU/Joint degrees, dont expect much since most likely your degree is not recognise

Maybe only those SIT degrees salary will be comparable to NUS/NTU grad
(tho as of now, so far no student from SIT-own degrees has graduated)

Currently for engineering, TUM grads have higher pay than any SIT self conferred degree holder.
