Steam Roller Core Not Bad....

Looking at Kaveri performance, the new steam roller cores are not bad though. Although its still behind Intel, its much better than piledriver and consume less power and still faster.

This also means Intel can't sit on its current architecture for too long..... We don't see much improvement in performance since SB..... Now AMD is catching up.

At least with Intel, you're getting expected & consistent incremental performance improvement unlike AMD where it usually gets some hype, and then the *meh* that goes on after another Dozer/Driver/Roller launch

Best combination for gamers and enthusiasts is discreet AmD GPU and intel chip.
Best for Laptop value user is Kaveri(iGPU)
Best for Mainstream office work is Kaveri(iGPU).

I am no fan of either side, I used Intel chip and AmD discreet Gpu.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Mainstream office work doesn't require the extra graphics power Kaveri provides over a cheap Intel CPU's iGPU. The Intel solution is much more forgiving power-wise too, which for an office with many such computers means a lot of power bill savings.

It's about consoles and mobile tablets/ultrabooks.

Theres Amazon AWS/C3 etc.

as it is, fixating on pure numbers and not the possible uses is like arguing about how a motorcyle for mass transport is going to compete with a high performance cars.

Nobody wins and everyone sounds like they're an ass.

These 2 aren't on the same league. Btw, clock to clock IPC, Streamroller does has ~10% in improvement.

What is there to discuss? In terms of CPU based performance, the 7850K can't even match with an i3 4330, and that's on multithreaded applications. As much as I'd love to see considerable progress in both iGPU and CPU from AMD, as of now, it seems like a lost cause.

i didnt even want to make a comparison. i'm just stating based on the benchmark i see. this steamroller on kaveri is still a inconsistent cpu. even though there is a 10% IPC. I doubt the scale up to 4GHz will still have those inconsistentcy issues.

Problem with AMD GPU is, overseas at least, their prices are overly inflated due to people buying them for cryptocurrency mining.

For us people who just want to game, nvidia seems better price/performance right now.

Mantle could be a game-changer (BF4 mantle update supposed to provide 45% better framerates), but AMD tends to overpromise and underdeliver, late as well.

You sure prices are overly inflated? AMD cards have been cheaper than Nvidia cards......

Perhaps you could list out which models are overly inflated....I only see cards like 7870, 7950 being great value for money cards..... So which one is overly inflated.

The Hawaiian cards are being inflated, not the 7000s/280x. Titan was a premium. If you had no competitor around, it's totally up to you to price your product. Consumers are the one who decide to buy and get the right to say they have the fastest card.

Efficient.....It depends on how you look at it though. Gaming wise, Nvidia is sure faster and consume less power. But in OpenCL, its a different story, even Titan is super wols.......

Btw, Nvidia had to sacrifice CUDA performance though.

I feel that it is always good to have competition in the hardware market which drives innovation up and pricing down. If the day comes when one brand rule the market, it will be their calling to price whatever premium they like and only need to provide usable performances, simply because THEY CAN due to no competition.

For this simple reason I have always been supporting AMD since my days of assembling self-built PCs in the 90s, doesn't matter the AMD systems I have built are better/poor performing than the competition or not.
