The Krisflyer allows stopover..

Compare award types
Fare type Saver Standard Full
One-way No Stopover 1 Stopover 1 Stopover
Round-trip 1 Stopover 2 Stopovers 2 Stopovers
Validity of award tickets 6 or 12* Months 12 Months 12 Months

Is there a table for list of applicable stopover that I can refer to ?

It's for long haul flights which has a stopover, ie, Singapore to New York via Frankfurt, so option to stop over in Frankfurt, Singapore to LA via Tokyo so with the option to stop over in Tokyo, Singapore to San Francisco via HK or Seoul, Singapore to Houston via Moscow. For direct flights like Singapore to Melbourne, Singapore to London, Singapore to Shanghai, there's obviously no stopovers.

FYI, SQ flies direct to LAX / SFO and JFK / IAH from Singapore. Direct flight does not mean you cannot have a stopover. Having these flights only mean that you can have a stopover and stay on SQ flights, or with no open-jaw segment.

For example, you can do SIN - PEK with a stopover in PVG. You can opt for a *A award, with SQ for SIN - PEK, PVG - SIN and Air China for PEK - PVG, or (not really sure if this is possible) to simply do an all SQ award, with only SIN - PEK and PVG - SIN, then you either buy the PEK - PVG separately or travel over land.

There's also a maximum miles limit to how far deviation your stopover can go.

SQ had ceased their direct flights to the US some time ago.

I was from the airline industry. I know the difference between transit, stopover and open-jaw.

FYI, direct flight simply means the same flight number, does not dictate the number of transits/stops in between. For example, SQ 2 flies direct from SIN to SFO via HKG. Yes, SQ ceased their non-stop flights, but they still have the direct, 1 stop flights. As it is a direct flight, you do not get another boarding pass for the second leg of the flight, you simply use the same boarding pass as opposed to having another flight number, you will get another boarding pass for that.

Please see wikipedia.

Thanks for clearing that up though it is misleading that they used the word direct flight when it used to be no stopovers before.

For the boarding pass portion. It depend. Sometime the second sector is fully booked. Yoy may need to change seat at transit.
