Nowadays I see lontong and satay rice (ketupat) all wrap in plastic.

Then the hawkers also steam them in plastic before unwrapping.

Actually is cook the crabstick with the plastic

When cook liao during eating then remove the plastic

The plastic is to make sure the crabstick stay in shape during cooking

It's build to withstand heat one so don't remove plastic before cook

Boil the plastic in hot soup is cancer causing. I buy 年糕, also buy those type wrap in banana leaves. Double the price of the ones in plastic bags but health comes first.

Should be more much more worry about your cooking oil which you consume daily that are being stored in plastics, oil will dissolve and breakdown the plastic and when you cook, you shun bian Wok Hoy the plastic with the ingredients.

I don't buy that stuff. It is not crab meat but some kind of meat with pink/red colouring.

As for the plastic, I would think the plastic would release chemicals under high heat. Why would you do that to your food?

The purpose of the prastic is to hold the crab stick together otherwise it will disintegrate when you cook them
