Hi

I'm looking to get either the WD black 3 or 4TB unit or the seagate hybrid 4TB drive.

WD Black i know the performance is fast compare to other normal hdd.

But the seagate hybrid drive with 8GB ssd cache and only at 5900rpm.

Which one will give a faster transfer speed?

Be using as storage not as boot strike as have ssd drive as boot.

thank you.

Just get a normal 7200rpm hard disk will do, no need to spend extra for performance edition. Minute increase in performance is barely noticable in day to day operation.

Between Ultrastar n WD black, which one is better? I pick these 2 bcos of their 5 years warranty. Also, which is easier to RMA?
Thanks.

From my own experience, both are equally great. both will deliver to your door step in a week or two, sometime 3 days! Seagate will do the same if you also consider their model.

Samsung was the worst as I have to visit their center at Joo Seng twice to send in and collect, like many sub-standard local distro. luckily by the time I had to RMA another Samsung, their were bought over by Seagate.

You might wanna avoid Toshiba cause as of now, nobody in HWZ is 100% sure where or how to RMA their HDD. :s22:

I usually send the HDD to their RMA center personally but you can send by post.

I find Seagate is the easiest to RMA cos I lve in Changi. If only the give 5 years warranty.

I am confused about the 2.2tb limit for legacy bios hardware. What with the gpt and such. How to go around such issues using old motherboards? I understand it is ok for data drive but not as boot drive?

Simple,

1)if you use XP x64 and above WinOS, to make use of >2TB, the HDD has to be initialized by using GPT. This is the age old MBR limitation.

2)to use this >2TB HDD as boot drive, the motherboard has to support UEFI. this is BIOS issue.

Windows support for hard disks that are larger than 2 TB

Windows and GPT FAQ

There are 3rd party software or boot manager to allow access to >2TB HDD for non-UEFI mobo and non-GPT OS. you decide if its worth risking corrupting your precious data.
