What are you guys using to store your movies etc? Referring to more than 4TB capacities.

Thinking to get some new Seagate IronWolf, anyone using? My WD Blues and Greens only last a few years before all the nonsense of failure start coming.

depends who do you buy from, some sellers might not be technically inclined to differentiate SMR drives, its best to google which model/drives are prone to be SMR drives.

smr drives are ok for archival storage.

yeap... may peeps are buying cheap WD Livebook ext drives and use shruck them out as archival storage, inside are SMR drives.

WD Blues are rebadged WD Greens.

Seagate Ironwolf are CMR not SMR. A good choice for storage.

If you just need 6 TB, you can consider WD Black. Amazon Singapore currently has it for S$319-75. Total overkill but worth considering for the reliability and 5 year warranty (shipped from Amazon US. If you need to RMA, can contact WD Singapore and they will usually allow RMA in Singapore).

Actually if u rip your Blu-ray n storing them in hdd, it’s ok to use in SMR drives since not going to keep overwrite.

I've been using seagate in the initial cases but those 7200.11 disk fail badly, the 7200.12 still ok but don't really last.

WD tends to be more lasting, but nowadays seems a bit heywire also. My WD Greens have been pretty lasting, until the 2017 batches which just died recently. My experience with the blues was worst; 3 of the 4TB (2018) just died and i realize only 3 years warranty.

Just wondering what's a more reliable and value for money ones. WD Blacks seems good but largest only 6TB. Anything bigger than that are the Reds and Purple.

That's when i saw the Seagate Ironwolf, wondering anyone using it. I think the pro version is more for NAS usage?

How about Toshiba X300? Cheap, non smr but noisy.

I go for 5yr warranty HDDs. 100% no Seagates. That usually means WD Black (up to 6TB). Greens are out. Reds, again will usually consider ones with 5yr warranty. >6TB looking at Gold but harder to get.
